Job description

Senior Cad Designer I

The Senior CAD Designer I is a high-level technical CAD role, serving as an advanced subject matter expert and leader in CAD production, design coordination, and standards compliance. This position ensures technical excellence across projects while guiding team members and improving departmental processes.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the preparation and drawing quality of Land Development Plans, Zoning Plans, Concept Plans, and Exhibits
  • Ability to utilize multiple software applications in the preparation of Land Development Plans
  • Perform grading designs, surface modeling, and topographic analysis
  • Ability to apply municipal design standards for layout restrictions and guidelines
  • Perform and review detailed earthwork analyses, identifying and resolving discrepancies with team to minimize project liability
  • Coordinate files and sharing with outside agencies
  • Provide CAD coordination between Engineers, CAD Designers, and Project Managers on projects
  • Ensure drawing deliverables meet scope, schedule, budget, regulatory requirements, and company standards
  • Drive project workflow and provide project milestones and timelines
  • Maintain drawing file organization per company standards and adhere to proper archiving processes
  • Perform progressive plan checks and final-level QA/QC reviews to guarantee drawing accuracy, constructability, and consistency prior to submission
  • Establish, maintain, and enforce CAD standards, workflows, and best practices (Client templates, CAD exercise presentations, written and recorded guides)
  • Mentor CAD users alongside CAD Management and act as a technical resource
  • Encourage continuous improvement, automation, and innovation for all CAD users
  • Embrace new technologies and software, spearheading innovation
  • Assist in cross-office work sharing while maintaining responsibility for the final product
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Associate degree in Engineering Technology, CAD, or related field preferred, or six (6) or more years of advanced CAD experience, including leadership or technical oversight
  • Land Development Design experience is required
  • Knowledge of Civil 3D is required

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Proficient in AutoCAD and Civil 3D
  • Understanding of CAD workflows and timelines
  • Understanding of land development design, grading, utilities and construction documentation
  • Ability to mentor and problem solve
  • Possess good working knowledge within CAD drawings as related to a variety of issues
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task with respect to projects, CAD standards, etc. daily
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision and resolve issues independently based on project/company standards
  • Strong attention to detail while maintaining consistent workflow
  • Willingness to assume increased responsibilities
  • Willingness and ability to expand knowledge of CAD abilities through training
  • Ability to work as a team player and interact well with others
  • Ability to learn and adapt in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
