Description
The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Center of Excellence for Eating Disorders (UNC CEED), established in 2003, is seeking candidates for a fixed-term Research Assistant Professor position in the Department of Psychiatry. The candidate will dedicate the majority of their time to research, specifically pursuing an active program of externally funded research (K- or R- level or equivalent) and actively and effectively pursuing and achieving publication in appropriate scholarly venues. Additionally, the successful candidate will offer a rich training environment for PhD students and post-doctoral fellows along with training and supervision of behavioral health trainees (including clinical psychology interns and psychiatry residents). This role also includes lectures to medical students and trainees in psychology, psychiatry, pediatrics, and other specialties. They will participate in the CEED Summer Research Fellow program, mentoring promising junior investigators in the field. Clinical responsibilities may include assessment and treatment services to children and families in inpatient and outpatient settings. We are seeking a candidate to contribute to the future vision and direction of CEED, who is passionate about advancing the science of eating disorders.
CEED is world-renowned for excellence in research, treatment, and training in eating disorders. Our research goals are to develop a deeper understanding of the causes of eating disorders and to create more effective diagnostic, treatment, and prevention strategies.
Additional Information:
Shaping the Next Frontier of Eating Disorders Science at UNC Center of Excellence for Eating Disorders
The UNC Center of Excellence for Eating Disorders (CEED) is recruiting a Research Assistant Professor to join our faculty and help shape the next chapter of a program with an international reputation for excellence in eating disorders research and training.
We are looking for a scientist with an active, externally funded program of research who wants to do more than build a successful individual research portfolio. We seek someone who wants to fundamentally advance the science of eating disorders and to address the big ideas about etiology, prevention, and treatment, and translate scientific discovery into meaningful improvements in outcomes for people with eating disorders.
CEED has built a powerful foundation spanning genetics, biology, clinical science, treatment, and training, along with extraordinary international collaborations and research resources. Our large-scale genetic work is just one path forward. There are many examples of the opportunities ahead: discovery is not the endpoint.
We are looking for someone who brings their own scientific perspective, methods, questions, and ideas to the table. That could mean clinical or treatment science, experimental therapeutics, developmental or behavioral science, neuroscience, computational approaches, genetics, precision medicine, prevention, or something completely novel that isn’t even on our radar screen. What matters is passion and a commitment to moving the field forward, not merely making incremental additions to it.
The ideal candidate understands eating disorders from both scientific and clinical perspectives and brings the curiosity, ambition, and collaborative spirit to ask: What will it take to truly move the needle on eating disorders, and how do we get there?
This is a research-focused faculty position, not a clinical service position, although applicants must be licensed or license-eligible to practice in North Carolina and have experience in both eating disorders research and treatment.
If you have grant funding, a research program you are passionate about, and a vision for where eating disorders science needs to go next, we want to hear about your science, your ideas, and the future you want to help build.
Requirements
- Applicants must have a Ph.D. and/or M.D. (or equivalent) in a relevant field and must be licensed to practice in NC (or be license eligible).
- Experience in both research and treatment of eating disorders is required.
- Evidence of external funding at R-level or the equivalent is essential.
- Candidates must have a programmatic line of research as evidenced via scholarship and research productivity referenced on their CV.
- Prior history of teaching, supervising, or mentoring advanced trainees is required.
- Finding Treatment Center working with Eating Disorders or an Eating Disorder Treatment Professionals is easy by searching our trusted network of top-rated professionals.
