Job description

Riverside Overview

Riverside Research is an independent National Security Nonprofit dedicated to research and development in the national interest. We provide high-end technical services, research and development, and prototype solutions to some of the countryโ€™s most challenging technical problems. All Riverside Research opportunities require U.S. Citizenship.

Position Overview

Riverside Research is seeking an experienced Senior Material Research Scientist to join our cutting-edge research team. The successful candidate will lead the development and application of advanced physics-based models to understand, predict and optimize the behavior and performance of advanced composite materials. This role involves working closely with material scientists, engineers, data analysts, and AI/ML scientists to drive innovation in composite materials for aerospace applications.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the technical direction with government and team, and mentor junior/mid-level staff.
  • Develop and validate physics-based models for the behavior and performance of advanced composite materials.
  • Simulate the mechanical, thermal, and chemical properties of composite materials using computational tools.
  • Integrate multi-scale modeling approaches to link microstructural features with macroscopic properties.
  • Collaborate with experimental researchers to correlate modeling predictions with experimental data.
  • Analyze and interpret simulation results to guide the development and optimization of composite materials.
  • Utilize finite element analysis (FEA), computation fluid dynamics (CFD) and other simulation techniques to study composite materials.
  • Prepare technical reports, presentations, and publication to communicate research findings.

Qualifications

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in physics, materials science, mechanical engineering, or a related field with a focus on computational modeling and simulation with 8 years of experience or 6 years with MS or 3 years with PhD.
  • Active Top Secret security clearance.
  • Proven experience leading a technical project and team.
  • 5+ years of experience in physics-based modeling of composite materials.
  • Proficiency in computational modeling tools such as ABAQUS, ANSYS, COMSOL, or similar software.
  • Experience with multiscale modeling and integration of different simulation methods.

Global Comp

$130,000-$220,000 This represents the typical compensation range for this position based on experience, location and other factors.
