Computational Mathematics Remote information

What is computational mathematics in a remote job setting?

Computational mathematics in a remote job involves using mathematical models, algorithms, and computational techniques to solve complex problems, often in science, engineering, or finance, while working from a location outside a traditional office. Remote computational mathematicians typically use computer programming, numerical analysis, and simulations to analyze data or develop software tools. The remote aspect allows professionals to collaborate with teams and access resources virtually, making the role flexible and accessible from anywhere with a reliable internet connection.

What are some common challenges faced by remote computational mathematics professionals, and how can they be addressed?

Remote computational mathematics professionals often encounter challenges such as limited real-time collaboration with colleagues, potential miscommunication on complex mathematical concepts, and the need for reliable access to powerful computational resources. To overcome these challenges, it's important to leverage collaborative tools like version control systems, video conferencing, and shared code repositories. Regular virtual meetings and clear documentation also help maintain effective teamwork and ensure everyone stays aligned on project goals.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Computational Mathematician in a remote role, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Computational Mathematician remotely, you typically need strong mathematical modeling, analytical skills, and a degree in mathematics, applied mathematics, or a related field. Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, MATLAB, or R, and experience with numerical simulation tools are often required. Excellent problem-solving, time management, and clear virtual communication skills help distinguish top performers in remote environments. These competencies are vital for solving complex problems, collaborating across locations, and efficiently delivering results in distributed teams.

What is the difference between Computational Mathematics Remote vs Data Scientist Remote?

Job description

About Us:

YipitData is the leading market research and analytics firm for the disruptive economy and most recently raised $475M from The Carlyle Group at a valuation of over $1B. Every day, our proprietary technology analyzes billions of alternative data points to uncover actionable insights across sectors like software, AI, cloud, e-commerce, ridesharing, and payments.

Our data and research teams transform raw data into strategic intelligence, delivering accurate, timely, and deeply contextualized analysis that our customers-ranging from the world's top investment funds to Fortune 500 companies-depend on to drive high-stakes decisions. From sourcing and licensing novel datasets to rigorous analysis and expert narrative framing, our teams ensure clients get not just data, but clarity and confidence.

We operate globally with offices in the US, APAC, and India. Our award-winning, people-centric culture-recognized by Inc. as a Best Workplace for three consecutive years-emphasizes transparency, ownership, and continuous mastery.

What It's Like to Work at YipitData:

YipitData isn't a place for coasting-it's a launchpad for ambitious, impact-driven professionals.

From day one, you'll take the lead on meaningful work, accelerate your growth, and gain exposure that shapes careers.

Why Top Talent Chooses YipitData:

  • Ownership That Matters: You'll lead high-impact projects with real business outcomes
  • Rapid Growth: We compress years of learning into months
  • Merit Over Titles: Trust and responsibility are earned through execution, not tenure
  • Velocity with Purpose: We move fast, support each other, and aim high-always with purpose and intention

If your ambition is matched by your work ethic-and you're hungry for a place where growth, impact, and ownership are the norm-YipitData might be the opportunity you've been waiting for.

About The Role:

We are looking for a Data Scientist to join our core Panel Science team. Our team is dedicated to building an uncompromising, mathematically rigorous single source of truth for enterprise consumer analytics.

In this role, you will work across a highly sophisticated data engine that bridges foundational statistical modeling, complex data infrastructure, and advanced analytical product architecture. Whether your deep expertise lies in refining core statistical baselines, optimizing heavy computational models, or architecting scalable logic libraries, you will have a massive impact on how enterprise-level consumer insights are delivered.

This is a remote-friendly opportunity that can sit in NYC (where our headquarters is located), one of our office hubs, or anywhere else in the US. However, depending upon where the remote work is performed, income could be subject to New York State tax withholding. We expect East Coast work hours.

As Our Corporate Data Scientist, You Will:

  • Statistical Modeling & Distribution Optimization: Design, validate, and deploy robust, scalable optimization frameworks and distribution models to ensure complete mathematical integrity across downstream metrics.
  • Methodology & Panel Foundations: Explore and execute complex methodologies, evaluate methodological trade-offs, and implement advanced statistical procedures.
  • Analytical Logic & Governance: Partner cross-functionally to transition ad hoc code into standardized, version-controlled templates and logical libraries. You will ensure analytics are structured cleanly to power diverse product surfaces, ranging from interactive dashboards to LLM-driven applications.
  • Infrastructure & Performance Optimization: Partner closely with Data Engineering to optimize code performance and scale analytical workflows. You will help transition complex statistical calculations from standard database queries into efficient, production-grade cloud compute architectures.

You Are Likely To Succeed If:

  • Experience: 4-5 years of professional data science experience. 2-3 years of experience with an advanced degree.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in a highly quantitative field (Statistics, Economics, Physics, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related discipline). A Master's degree is strongly preferred.
  • Mathematical Proficiency: Exceptional expertise in working with, modeling, and optimizing for statistical distributions.
  • Technical Stack: Advanced proficiency in Python or R and expert-level SQL.
  • Key Advantages (Big Plus):
    • Direct experience working with panel data or longitudinal consumer data.
    • Hands-on experience analyzing receipt data or transaction-level consumer data.
    • Experience working with Databricks and scaling advanced compute workloads.

What We Offer:

Our compensation package includes comprehensive benefits, perks, and a competitive salary:

  • We care about your personal life, and we mean it. We offer flexible work hours, flexible vacation, a generous 401K match, parental leave, team events, wellness budget, learning reimbursement, and more!
  • Your growth at YipitData is determined by the impact that you are making, not by tenure, unnecessary facetime, or office politics. Everyone at YipitData is empowered to learn, self-improve, and master their skills in an environment focused on ownership, respect, and trust. See more on our high-impact, high-opportunity work environment above!
  • The annual on-target earnings for this position are anticipated to be up to $170K + bonus element. The final offer may be determined by a number of factors, including, but not limited to, the applicant's experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, as well as internal team benchmarks.
  • The compensation package also includes equity.

This role may be performed fully remotely within the United States. Please note that our US headquarters are located in NYC. We also have office hubs in Austin, Miami, Denver, Mountain View, and Seattle. If the remote work is performed outside of these offices, income may be subject to New York State tax withholding.

Please note that for this position, we are not able to consider candidates who currently or in the future will require visa sponsorship.

We are committed to equal employment opportunity regardless of race, color, ancestry, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, age, marital status, disability, gender, gender identity or expression, or veteran status. We are proud to be an equal-opportunity employer.
