Course number and title: STA313H5F Topics in Statistics (applications of Stat. Models) (emergency post)

Course description: An introduction to data visualization and the use of visual and interactive representations of data to support human cognition. This course covers visualization techniques and algorithms based on principles from graphic design, perceptual psychology, cognitive science, and human-computer interaction. Topics include: graphic design, interaction, perception and cognition, communication, and ethics. Computational tutorials involve design review, implementation, and testing of information visualizations.

Estimated course enrolment: 100

Number of positions: 1 SIA

Size of appointment: 100 hrs

Sessional dates of appointment: September 1, 2026 - December 31, 2026; Tutorials.Thu: 5:00-6:00 PM 

Salary: $55.25/hour + 4% vacation pay

Minimum qualifications: Knowledge of probability models and statistical inference, sampling methods, R software

Preferred qualifications: Completion of the course and possibly other Stats courses with high grades, strong interpersonal and communication skills

Relevant criterion: Previous experience is the more relevant criterion than the need to acquire experience in respect of this posted position.
