Your Specific Responsibilities:

The incumbent reports directly to the Arbovirus Serologic Testing and Environmental Surveillance Supervisor and has the primary responsibility of performing non-clinical hemagglutination inhibition testing. Additional clinical testing may be required during outbreaks.

  • Prepares, processes, and performs highly complex assays on submitted clinical and animal specimens. 
  • Prepares stock reagents, moderately and highly complex reagents, and media for use in virology procedures. 
  • Performs quality assurance procedures and quality control testing. 
  • Accessions submitted specimens, including assigning laboratory numbers to specimens and monitors specimen quality. 
  • Analyzes and reports test results. 
  • Performs related duties as required. 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of terminology, principles and techniques used in analysis and testing. 

Knowledge of procedures, techniques & equipment used in lab testing and analysis. 

Skill in the use of lab equipment. 

Ability to communicate effectively. 

Ability to work independently. 

Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments. 

Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures. 

Qualifications:

Minimum - State of Florida Clinical Laboratory License as a Laboratory Technician (Microbiology or Public Health Microbiology), Chapter 483 F.S and Rule 6483 F.A.C or eligible for license.

Preferred - One year of laboratory experience. Bachelor's degree in chemical or biological science.
