This Opportunity

WSP is seeking a Senior Project Manager / Environmental Engineer to join our high-performing Earth & Environment team based in Madison, Wisconsin. This role is a senior-level seller-doer position that combines technical leadership, complex project delivery, client relationship management, and business development.


The successful candidate will lead complex water resources and environmental infrastructure projects, primarily serving industrial and commercial clients across the Upper Midwest. You will collaborate with an interdisciplinary team delivering environmental assessment, remediation, and water supply projects across the United States.


Your Impact
Strategic Project Leadership


  • Lead the planning, design, and execution of diverse environmental and water resource projects.
    Drive strategic planning, resourcing, partnering, and contracting strategies for high-value client engagements.
    Coordinate with WSP Practice Area Networks and Industrial/Commercial Sector leaders to ensure responsive, high-quality client service.


Financial & Resource Management

  • Manage full project lifecycles, including budgets, schedules, contracts, forecasting, and financial performance.

  • Oversee environmental projects including site characterization, remedial design, and preparation of technical reports and documentation.

  • Prepare proposals and contribute to large-scale pursuits by developing scopes of work, task-level budgets, and cost estimates.

  • Maintain strong client relationships while managing multiple concurrent projects.

  • Provide regular workload and resource forecasting reports to regional leadership.


Client & Business Development

  • Build and sustain long-term relationships with key clients and stakeholders.
    Lead pursuit strategies and preparation of winning proposals for new and existing clients.
    Provide business leadership for environmental remediation, site characterization, and water resources work in collaboration with regional leaders.


Team Leadership & Mentorship

  • Directly supervise and mentor multidisciplinary teams of engineers, hydrogeologists, and environmental scientists.
    Support professional growth through mentoring of early-career and mid-level engineers, geologists, and scientists.
    Foster a culture of technical excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement.


Quality, Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure adherence to WSP Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) standards and safety plans.
    Ensure project work complies with all applicable local, state, and feder


Who You Are
Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Hydrogeology, or a closely related scientific discipline.

  • Minimum of 7 years of environmental engineering or science experience, including 5+ years in a dedicated project management role.

  • Professional Engineer (PE).

  • Advanced experience with site investigations and/or remediation of sediment, surface water, and/or groundwater.

  • Strong technical writing, presentation, and communication skills.

  • Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail and time management.

  • Commitment to WSP’s Code of Conduct and corporate policies.

  • Ability to pass a drug test, physical, background check, and maintain a satisfactory driving record per WSP policy.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in engineering.

  • Ability to serve as a Subject Matter Expert within one or more Practice Area Networks.

  • Experience with one or more of the following:

    • Design and construction of sediment remediation and/or water resources restoration projects.

    • Development or leadership of environmental or hydrogeologic models, including large datasets and 3D characterizations.

    • Environmental permitting and regulatory coordination with US EPA and/or state agencies.

    • Leadership of interdisciplinary teams spanning environmental, geotechnical, water resources, ecological, and regulatory disciplines.

    • Construction oversight and contractor management experience in the Midwest U.S.
