What is the Opportunity?

RBC Capital Markets (RBC CM) is looking for a lead responsible for owning and evolving the end-to-end data lineage framework across Capital Markets. This role provides strategic oversight of data flows spanning front-office through middle-office and back-office systems, in critical regulatory and reporting platforms such as CAT, TRACE, and CAIS. The lead will establish standards for metadata modeling, data ownership, and critical data element identification to ensure compliance, auditability, and business intelligence across the organization.

What will you do?

  • Own the end-to-end data lineage framework across all Capital Markets systems, from front-office trading through middle-office risk management to back-office settlement and regulatory reporting
  • Map and document trade lifecycle flows (order execution allocation reporting) and regulatory reporting flows (FINRA CAT, TRACE, OATS legacy systems)
  • Define and enforce golden sources of truth, data ownership structures (RACI matrices), and critical data elements (CDEs) across the organization
  • Design and maintain comprehensive metadata models that capture both technical and business lineage
  • Deliver audit-ready lineage documentation and traceability maps spanning multiple levels of detail (L1-L4)
  • Build and govern a centralized data catalog that serves as the single source of truth for data provenance and lineage across Capital Markets
  • Collaborate with front-office, middle-office, and back-office teams to validate lineage accuracy and ensure business alignment
  • Support regulatory compliance and audit requirements by maintaining current, accurate lineage documentation

What do you need to succeed?

Must Have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, or related field, or equivalent professional experience in data engineering or enterprise data architecture
  • 7-10 years of experience in data governance, enterprise data architecture, or data management roles
  • Minimum 5 years working in Capital Markets or financial services environments
  • Demonstrated experience building and managing enterprise-wide data lineage frameworks in large, regulated organizations
  • Expert-level proficiency with enterprise data lineage and cataloging tools: Collibra Data Intelligence Platform, Informatica Enterprise Data Catalog, and Alation
  • Deep expertise in metadata modeling, including both technical and business lineage design
  • Strong understanding of Capital Markets trade lifecycle and regulatory reporting requirements
  • Ability to define and document golden sources, data ownership models, and critical data elements
  • Advanced SQL and data architecture knowledge to validate technical lineage across complex systems
  • Experience designing governance frameworks and documentation standards at enterprise scale

Nice to Have:

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Business Administration, or Finance
  • Relevant certifications such as Collibra Certified Data Steward, Informatica certification, or Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP)
  • Active involvement in data governance communities or thought leadership in metadata management
