Caterpillar Inc. seeks Embedded SW Sr. Engineer at its facility located at 2427 E Engine Drive, Chillicothe, IL 61523.
Design, develop, and test embedded software features. Create and maintain design documentation. Troubleshoot and resolve software issues. Provide user guidance and training. Design and develop application software using Embedded C & C++ for Medium L WL models/machines based on the requirement specification. Develop embedded software and perform cross compilation using Diab compiler for A4, A5 and A6 ECU Platforms with Freescale MPC55xx microcontroller. Follow strict coding guidelines per Embedded MISRA-C coding standards. Develop interface prototypes for embedded platforms, existing libraries and architecture definitions per user stories. Perform requirements gathering and scope definition for each user story. Work on required code changes, carried out and updated in applicable requirement specification documents. Participate in Caterpillar ITDD agile methodology and complete the activities per L WL machine team's sprint (Agile) schedule. Create high level design documentation covering interfaces, boundary diagrams and communication between ECU s. Deliver design solutions and software architecture for the A4, A5 and A6 ECU Platforms supporting AUTOSAR, CAT proprietary protocol such as CDL, JI 939 PropA, addressing client product, technology and system needs. Work with Caterpillar stakeholders such as system coordinators, System Integration Engineers, independent system, validation groups for backlog/activity prioritization, developing user stories and delivery of features/software. Develop unit test code to validate newly developed embedded application code for LWL machines, in line with Test driven development process. Bench testing & test report preparation. Work with tools used for testing & debugging such as Trace 32, CAT ET, CANape, CANalyzer. Ensure software build setup and flashing the ECU software using standardized test tools and CAT proprietary tools. Seek inputs from Caterpillar technical leads on test plans and test cases used as criteria for acceptance and approved by Caterpillar. Analyze test results and create test reports for each iteration of development. Work with independent system validation groups and perform acceptance testing and delivery of features/software. Maintain software version and release using continuous integration and deployment system for multiple packages that are part of the proprietary product. Ensure seamless integration of newly developed feature set and defect fixes to their code base and release flash file based on the Agile Sprint cycles. Integrate, evaluate and recommend integration solutions to improve the maintenance process. Run automated system tests using continuous integration system either for the complete software or selective feature that has undergone modifications. Troubleshoot, update, and maintain the system by automating activities using Vector test tools and CAPL Scripting program. Port and cross compile existing software using Diab compiler for A4, A5 and A6 ECU platforms. Ensure identification of new code improvement opportunities and detailed analysis of existing software architecture and setup. Adapt new complier tool chain for porting to the new ECU platforms and testing for throughput determination and benchmarking test results for future reference. Develop unit test code in line with Test Driven Development and Acceptance Test Driven Development processes. Run automated tests using continuous integration system for complete software or selective features that have undergone modifications. Analyze test results and create test reports for each iteration of the development (PSI). Telecommuting permitted 2 days per week.
REQS: This position requires a bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Electronics & Communication Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science Engineering, Software Engineering or a related field and 8 years of experience as an embedded software engineer or related occupation. Additionally, the applicant must have employment experience with: (1) Freescale MPC55xx microcontroller (A4, AS and A6 ECU Platforms); (2) Vector CANalyzer/ CANOe/ CANape, Diab compiler, Trace32 debugger; (3) Embedded CIC++, AUTOSAR, Vector CAN Stack, CAN and SAE JI 939 protocol standards; and (4) JI 939, GIT, and Clearcase.
Summary Pay Range:
$127,587.00 - $169,060.00 per year
