Competitive Intelligence Senior Manager, Global Biosimilars

This role serves as the competitive intelligence lead for multiple pipeline assets within Amgen's Biosimilars Business Unit. Responsibilities include leading intelligence gathering and AI-enabled analytics, managing external vendors and internal intelligence networks, presenting recommendations to senior stakeholders, and ensuring all activities are conducted in accordance with Amgen's legal and ethical competitive intelligence standards.
Work Location: Flex Commuter to Thousand Oaks, CA; minimum one on-site day per month highly encouraged.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead Competitive Intelligence strategy for Biosimilars strategic pipeline assets, serving as the primary thought partner to the Biosimilars Business Unit. Own asset/brand-, therapeutic-area-, and company-level CI, developing deep competitor expertise-including strategic tracking of companies such as Sandoz and Celltrion-and translating insights into actionable recommendations for key business decisions.

  • Lead the full CI cycle-define Key Intelligence Topics/Questions with Marketing and other business colleagues, execute hypothesis-driven primary & secondary research, and deliver clear, actionable insight packages for multiple internal stakeholders.

  • Leverage and expand AI-enabled technologies (including Codex, generative AI, NLP, predictive analytics, automation) to improve competitive intelligence workflows, accelerate signal detection and raise insight quality.

  • Integrate diverse data sources-KOL & investigator interviews, conference intelligence, clinical-trial/market databases (e.g., clinicaltrials.gov, TrialTrove, BioMedTracker, Evaluate, Cortellis, Factset, AlphaSense)-into cohesive competitive landscapes and scenario plans.

  • Direct and mentor a network of external vendors and internal partners to execute research, facilitate red-team/war-gaming simulations, and lead rapid-response congress debriefs (≈10% travel).

  • Present strategic recommendations to senior leadership and champion CI best practices, ensuring full compliance with Amgen's CI Legal & Ethical Guidelines while nurturing talent and contributing to enterprise AI/analytics forums.

Basic Qualifications
  • Doctorate degree and 2 years of competitive intelligence or similar experience

OR
  • Master's degree and 4 years of competitive intelligence or similar experience

OR
  • Bachelor's degree and 6 years of competitive intelligence or similar experience

OR
  • Associate's degree and 10 years of competitive intelligence or similar experience

OR
  • High school diploma / GED and 12 years of competitive intelligence or similar experience

Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of basic principles of functions across the pharmaceutical value chain, including drug discovery & development, clinical trials, FDA / EMA regulation, and drug commercialization

  • Proven track record managing multiple, simultaneous projects and experience working with proprietary technical, regulatory and financial data sources (i.e. TrialTrove, Cortellis Intelligence, Evaluate Pharma, PubMed)

  • Experience supporting insight generation by coordinating with cross-functional commercial, medical & scientific teams to develop therapeutic area strategy

  • Ability to analyze ongoing clinical trials and global regulatory considerations to develop scenarios for competitor launch timing in US, EU, Japan, China and other key markets

  • Understand pharmaceutical forecasting models, and provide competitor-focused assumptions to estimate market share, in support of long-range planning scenarios, go/no-go decisions and opportunity assessment for business development activities

  • Advanced degree (PhD/MS/MBA) focused on life sciences or business

  • 5years hands-on experience in biosimilars or biologics competitive intelligence, strategy, or management consulting

  • Demonstrated expertise applying within competitive or market intelligence (e.g., LLM-based text mining, retrieval-augmented generation, dashboarding).

  • Excellent storytelling skills-able to distill complex scientific and commercial data for executive audiences.

  • Proven project leadership and vendor-management capabilities in fast-moving, matrixed environments.

  • High learning agility, intellectual curiosity, and collaborative mindset.

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
