Job Summary:

MS Companies is partnering with a well-established, growth-oriented roadway construction and infrastructure contractor to hire a Diesel Mechanic / Heavy Equipment Technician for their Imlay City, MI operation. This is a confidential search due to growth and operational expansion. The organization is looking to hire within the next 2–4 weeks and is actively interviewing qualified candidates.

This role serves as the primary mechanic for the site, maintaining and repairing a mixed fleet of heavy construction equipment and on-road trucks that support active field crews. Required Skills & Qualifications

(Must meet to be considered)

  • 3+ years of diesel or heavy equipment repair experience
  • Strong diagnostic capability in:
    • Diesel and gasoline engines
    • Hydraulic and pneumatic systems
    • Electrical systems on heavy equipment and trucks
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize repairs
  • Valid Driver’s License (CDL A or B ability preferred)
  • Must provide own hand tools (company provides power tools)
  • Willingness to work overtime and occasional weekends during peak season
  • Ability to lift up to 70 lbs and work safely around heavy machinery
  • Authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship

Preferred Skills & Qualifications
  • Road construction or heavy civil equipment experience
  • Experience with pavers, rollers, oil trucks, dump trucks, skid steers, chippers
  • Welding and fabrication skills
  • Familiarity with OEM diagnostic software
  • ASE or related certifications
  • Strong communication skills with operators and leadership

Day-to-Day Responsibilities
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and drivetrain issues
  • Perform preventive maintenance to maximize fleet uptime
  • Travel to job sites for field repairs (service truck provided)
  • Document repairs and maintenance activities
  • Communicate equipment condition and repair timelines
  • Maintain compliance with DOT, OSHA, and company safety standards
  • Support operational efficiency and continuous improvement

Physical & Environment Requirements
  • Frequent standing, bending, climbing, kneeling
  • Lifting up to 70 lbs
