Compensation

$50,000 base + bonus/commission (equivalent to $74,000/year during initial 6 months; see below)

Modern Compactor Repair is looking for a driven, personable Compactor Sales Technician to grow our footprint in repair services, preventative maintenance (PM) contracts, and compactor/baler rentals. This is a hybrid sales and technical-advisory role: you'll visit commercial and industrial sites, assess compactor equipment, and sell the right mix of repair, maintenance, and rental solutions to keep customers' operations running without unplanned downtime.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prospect and sell compactor and baler repair services, PM contracts, and rental agreements to commercial and industrial accounts (retail, grocery, food service, manufacturing, distribution, multifamily, and hospitality).
  • Conduct on-site equipment assessments and inspections to identify repair, maintenance, or rental opportunities.
  • Build and maintain relationships with facilities managers, property managers, operations directors, and waste haulers.
  • Prepare and present quotes and proposals for repair work, PM contracts, and rental agreements; negotiate pricing and contract terms.
  • Own the full sales cycle: prospecting, site visits, proposal development, closing, and handoff to the service team.
  • Maintain accurate records of leads, quotes, and account activity in the CRM.
  • Meet or exceed monthly and quarterly sales targets across services, PM contracts, and rentals.
  • Coordinate with service technicians and dispatch to ensure smooth onboarding of new maintenance and rental accounts.
  • Monitor competitor activity, market pricing, and customer equipment lifecycle to identify renewal and upsell opportunities.
  • Represent Modern Compactor Repair at trade shows, property management associations, and networking events as needed.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of hydraulic and electrical compactor systems sufficient to speak credibly with customers about equipment condition and needs (hands-on repair is not required).

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of outside or B2B sales experience; experience in industrial equipment, waste/recycling, or facilities services strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with compactors, balers, or similar industrial/mechanical equipment is a plus.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Self-motivated and comfortable managing an independent sales territory or route.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Comfortable using CRM software and basic quoting/proposal tools.
  • Ability to read basic technical specifications and translate them into customer-facing recommendations.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical, business, or sales-related coursework a plus.

Compensation Structure

Initial 6-Month Period (Contract)

  • Total guaranteed compensation equivalent to $74,000/year during the initial 6-month period.
  • Base salary: $50,000/year, plus a bonus structured to bring total guaranteed pay to the $74,000/year equivalent.
  • Bonus is tied to meeting required activity benchmarks (required site visits/"doors" and other performance requirements - [to be defined]).
  • Commission: 2% of total sales (repair services, PM contracts, and rentals) during this period, in addition to base and bonus.

After the Initial 6-Month Period

  • Base salary: $50,000/year continues.
  • Commission shifts to 5% of sales up to goal/quota, with an increased stretch commission rate on sales beyond goal [rate to be finalized].
  • Required activity benchmarks ("doors") continue to apply and may be adjusted based on performance history.

Perks & Allowances

  • Company truck provided for business use.
  • Entertainment/client allowance.
  • Ramp fuel/expense card for business-related fuel and expenses.

Tools & Accountability

  • Required use of HubSpot CRM for all lead, quote, and account tracking - mandatory and non-negotiable.
  • Paired with a dedicated sales coach for onboarding and ongoing development.
  • Weekly one-on-one check-in with sales coach/manager to review pipeline, activity, and progress toward goal.

Required Travel

  • 401(k)
  • Paid time off and company holidays.
  • Ongoing product and technical training.

Work Environment

  • Field-based role requiring regular travel within an assigned territory, including mandatory recurring trips to Dallas and San Antonio.
  • Some physical activity involved in site assessments, including climbing stairs/ladders and accessing tight mechanical spaces around equipment.
