Job description

Reporting to the Community Relations Supervisor, Detour Lake Mine, as the Moose Cree First Nation Community Liaison Officer you will support engagement, relationship-building, communication, and implementation of commitments between Detour Lake Mine and Moose Cree First Nation. Your role will act as a local point of contact within the community, support consultation and engagement activities, coordinate community meetings and events, assist with reporting and documentation requirements, and help identify and communicate community interests, concerns, and opportunities. Your position contributes to the positive relationship between Moose Cree First Nation and Detour Lake Mine, while supporting Community and Indigenous Relations objectives and commitments. Support implementation of Community and Indigenous Relations programs, agreements, commitments, and engagement activities involving Moose Cree First Nation. Assist with relationship-building initiatives, respond to community inquiries, support grievance management processes, and facilitate communication between community members and Detour Lake Mine representatives.

  • Coordinate and support community meetings, engagement sessions, workshops, site visits, and events involving Moose Cree First Nation. Manage scheduling, logistics, travel coordination, meeting preparation, and support activities that strengthen engagement and participation opportunities;

  • Support documentation and tracking of engagement activities, commitments, community concerns, and consultation records. Maintain information within systems such as Borealis and assist with internal and external reporting requirements related to community engagement and permitting activities;
  • Collaborate with Community and Indigenous Relations personnel and internal departments to support engagement strategies and initiatives. Monitor and communicate emerging community issues, concerns, and opportunities, and assist in identifying potential risks and mitigation options related to community relations activities.
  • Post-Secondary Diploma in a related program;  
  • Minimum one to three years' experience working in a similar role;
  • English proficiency for written and oral communications. 
  • Cree is considered an asset;
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Teams;
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel throughout Ontario;
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including frequent overnight travel, as required;
  • Experience working with Indigenous Nations is considered a strong asset;
  • Experience working in the mining industry is considered an asset.

Your Work Schedule:

  • Primarily office based environment;
  • Regular travel between Moose Factory, Detour Lake Mine, and surrounding communities to support meetings, engagement activities, community events, relationship-building initiatives, and site visits. Approximately 40% or more travel, depending on operational and engagement requirements;
  • Eligible for teleworking under Ontario Regional Teleworking Policy.
