Position Description
Residence Life & Housing (RLH) provides a safe, inclusive, & quality residential experience where access to programs, services, & staff fosters a sense of community in an environment conducive to learning.
Position Information
The Community Assistant is a student employee within RLH responsible for student support, community development and operational functions within assigned residential areas. This role focuses on fostering engagement, enhancing residential experience, and assisting with administrative related processes that contribute to a safe, inclusive, and well-managed community.
Community Assistants will serve as members of the RLH student employee team and work in partnership with Resident Assistants (RAs), Residential Safety Assistants (RSAs), and professional staff to promote a strong residential environment.
Responsibilities for this position will include:
Customer Services & Engagement
  • Design and maintain bulletin boards regularly throughout the assigned area.
  • Collaborate with staff to support and prepare materials for ongoing training and initiatives.
  • Staff front desks area to provide resident support and utilize safety protocols.
  • Promote engagement in Residence Hall Association (RHA).
  • Assist residents with concerns brought forward and provide appropriate referrals when necessary.

Administrative & Operational Support
  • Complete lockouts during designated office hours in accordance with departmental procedures.
  • Pick-up and drop-off deliveries to campus offices
  • Maintain office areas in a clean and organized condition, including monitoring and updating inventories, organizing supplies, and ensuring visual materials and displays are current.
  • Conduct regular office audits (e.g., key cards, supplies, programming materials).
  • Assist with health and safety processes within the assigned area.
  • Complete facilities rounds and report maintenance concerns appropriately.
  • Hang flyers and assist with distributing marketing materials.
  • Prepare print and digital marketing materials for the building and department.
  • Other duties as assigned and directed by management

Expectations for this role include:
  • Work up to 10 hours per week as scheduled.
  • Attend required training sessions, staff meetings, and supervision meetings.
  • Maintain regular communication with supervising staff and other departmental staff.
  • Serve as a positive representative of Residence Life & Housing.

Eligibility requirements:
Must be a Bridgewater State University undergraduate student registered for a minimum of six credits for the Fall 2026 semester.
Preferred Qualifications
Qualifications
  • Maintain a 2.5 GPA for semester and cumulative GPA
  • Maintain good standing within Community Standards as determined by the Office of Residence Life & Housing
  • Must be a currently enrolled student in good academic and conduct standing.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage time effectively while balancing academic responsibilities.
  • Organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Commitment to fostering inclusive and welcoming communities.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.

Physical Demands
  • Ability to perform light physical tasks including but not limited to lifting
  • Tasks may periodically be across campus or in non-air-conditioned residence halls
