Job description

Founded in 1953, Hudson Valley Community College (HVCC) located in scenic Upstate NY is a multi-campus College with locations in Troy and Malta New York. HVCC offers more than 80 degree and certificate programs in three schools: Business and Liberal Arts; Health Sciences; and Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM). Hudson Valley is one of 30 community colleges in the State University of New York (SUNY) system and serves nearly 9,000 students each year. The college is a recognized leader in career and transfer preparation, workforce training initiatives, distance learning and service to a diverse population of students. Program Assistant Academics III HV-CS-9661

Minimum Qualifications:
• Associate’s degree from an accredited institution
• 3 years of experience in an office or customer service setting

RESIDENCY REQUIREMENTS:  Candidates must have been legal residents of New York State for at least FOUR months immediately preceding the date of the test. Pursuant to subdivision 4a of Sec. 23 of the Civil Service Law, preference may be given to successful candidates who have been legal residents of the municipality to which the appointment is to be made for at least FOUR months preceding the date of the written test.

This is a provisional appointment. Selected candidate will need to sit, pass and be eligible on the next available Rensselaer County Civil Service Exam for Program Assistant Academics III in order to be considered for permanent appointment. 

Promotional Qualifications
One (1) year Permanent or Contingent Permanent competitive class status in the position of Program Assistant Academics II OR two (2) years Permanent or Contingent Permanent competitive class status in the position of Program Assistant Academics I at Hudson Valley Community College.

DUTIES AND/OR RESPONSIBILITIES:
•    Under the general supervision of the Department Chair of Applied Technologies or other academic supervisor, provides high level clerical or paraprofessional assistance to students, faculty and administration of an academic department or departments.
•    Communicates directly with the professional community regarding program-specific information.
•    Communicates with prospective students regarding the admission process specific to the Applied Technologies dept.
•    Assists the Department Chair with data development and writing for annual reports and program reviews.
•    Assists the Department Chair with budget preparation, gathering and organizing data.
•    Devises and maintains complex file structures and data retrieval methods.
•    Produces routine and ad hoc reports from office file structures.
•    Develops and monitors office protocols and priorities for maximizing office productivity.
•    Develops and communicates information for faculty re: academic policies.
•    Assists faculty with formatting and reproduction of course material.
•    Utilizes MS Office or other office software to design, develop and produce required documents and records.
•    Participate in all department meetings
•    Perform other duties as assigned 

There is one full-time 40 hour work week position with an hourly rate of $23.294.
Start date is immediate.
