Asian Americans Advancing Justice Southern California offices are located in downtown Los Angeles and Orange County, with presence in Sacramento, ensuring accessibility for all. With our Advancing Justice affiliates in Atlanta, Chicago, and Washington, D.C., we enrich, enhance, and serve our communities all across the country.ย 

We provide supportive services for individuals wanting to start the immigration process through Family-Based Immigration, Asylum, Temporary Protected Status, the Violence Against Women Act, Special Immigrant Juvenile Status, T-Visa, and U-Visa. We also offer free citizenship workshops and resources to help you on your naturalization journey.ย Beyond immigration, we also lead community-centered initiatives such as the Asian Language Legal Intake Project (ALLIP), the Survivor and Family Empowerment (SAFE) Project, the Housing Preservation (HP) Program, and our Health Access Project (HAP). In addition, our Demographic Research Project (DRP) and Community Engagement (CE) teams drive data-informed strategies and grassroots partnerships that deepen our impact across Southern California.ย Our Impact Litigation Team looks to create systemic change for our communities, while our Policy Team continues to shape laws and local practices that impact millions of Asian American and immigrant families across California.ย

WHAT YOU BRING

  • Minimum 6 months direct community service with AAPI community members/CBOs, including volunteer experience.
  • Strong written, oral, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Strong track record of public speaking, that reflects fearlessness and enthusiasm.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team with minimal supervision.
  • Bilingual / biliterate in Vietnamese preferred.
  • Demonstrated sincere commitment to social justice and serving on behalf of low-income, immigrant AAPI communities.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Strong computer and database skills with familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite products preferred.
  • Familiarity with digital communications (website, social media, email).
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends.
  • Valid driverโ€™s license, and access to vehicle or to alternative means of transportation

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Community Engagement Navigator is a multi-faceted member of a dynamic team that works closely with community members and most of Advancing Justice Southern Californiaโ€™s programs. The Community Engagement Navigator will be working directly with community members, including but not limited to: case management and service navigation, community outreach and education, and community partner relationship-building.

Working directly with vulnerable limited English proficient community members, the Community Engagement Navigator will provide direct navigation assistance services, in addition to legal services provided by AJSOCAL programs. The Community Engagement Navigator will also promote the services provided by AJSOCAL by cultivating relationships with community partners and actively engaging in community outreach opportunities (e.g., community events, media engagements, and social media activities). The Community Navigator will be working closely with community members who are victims of anti-Asian discrimination, survivors of domestic violence, and clients of AJSOCAL programs.ย This is a fixed term position and IS covered under the Collective Bargaining Unit.

Duties and Responsibilities

65% Community Engagement and Outreach

  • Promote AAD program and other AJSOCAL programs by engaging community members in traditional and creative forms of community outreach.
  • Cultivate community partnerships with community-based organizations, community organizers, government departments, media, and other groups that provide benefits and services.
  • Present Bystander Intervention training, upon completion of certification training.
  • Communication liaison between the community/external organizations and AJSOCAL โ€“ promoting AJSOCALโ€™s services and capacity to external organizations; feeding relevant community news to AJSOCALโ€™s various program units.
  • Lead outreach campaigns of assigned direct service unit(s), including developing media and budget plan and presenting at workshops.
  • Translate or create language specific outreach and community education content for various channels and usage.

25% Case Navigation and Client Engagement

  • Provide rapid-response case navigation and accompaniment client services.
  • Assist clients in obtaining non-legal services and benefits provided by supportive agencies and community partners.
  • Advocate for clients in obtaining legal services, support our Asian Language Intake Program
  • Support policy/litigation efforts

10% Reporting and Data Tracking

  • Perform administrative duties including but not limited to inputting intakes into database and filing.
  • Provide timely and accurate data collection and tracking for client services and interactions.
  • Assist with grant management and reporting, as needed.
  • All other duties as assigned.
