Instructional Support Compensation Plan

Pay Grade: 1

EMPLOYMENT BEGINS:ย As soon as possibleย 



PRIMARY PURPOSE:

  • To assist one or more teachers in preparation and management of classroom activities and administrative requirements.
  • Work under the supervision of certified teacher.ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย 

QUALIFICATIONS:ย 
Education/Certification:

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Texas Educational Aide Certificate

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:

  • Ability to work well with children and exhibit effective working relationships with staff and school community
  • Ability to communicate effectively.

EXPERIENCE:

  • None
  • Some experience working with children preferred

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Collaborate with the teacher to set up classroom and prepare materials for specialized instructional units.
  • Assemble materials for bulletin boards and keep displays current.
  • Operate standard school equipment such as laminator, copier, etc.
  • Escort children to and from various rooms.
  • Assist in small group pupil instruction and tutor students at teacher's request.
  • Help supervise students throughout the school day, inside and outside the classroom.ย  This includes the lunchroom, bus, and playground duty.
  • Keep teacher informed of special needs or problems concerning individual students.
  • Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance.
  • Participate in faculty meeting and special events as assigned.
  • Help maintain discipline and other non-instructional functions.ย ย ย ย ย ย ย 
  • Help maintain neat and orderly classroom.
  • Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
  • Record attendance information and related clerical functions with the teacher.
  • Supervise students when teacher is temporarily absent.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Reading and comprehending simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Writing simple correspondence and effectively presenting information in one-on-one and small group situations.
  • Applying common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Maintain emotional control under stress.

Physical demands/environmental factors:

  • Occasional lifting and/or moving of up to 20 lbs.
  • Standing, bending, walking, talking, and hearing.
  • Climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
