Community Habilitation Worker

Who We Are:

Yachad, a division of The Orthodox Union, the nation's largest Orthodox Jewish organization, supports individuals with intellectual, developmental, and learning disabilities. Yachad helps these individuals participate more fully in Jewish life and the broader society by providing educational, employment, and relationship opportunities.

The Orthodox Union (OU) is one of the largest Orthodox Jewish organizations in the United States. Founded in 1898, the OU supports a network of synagogues, youth programs, Jewish and Religious Zionist advocacy programs, programs for people with disabilities, localized religious study programs, and international units. The OU maintains a kosher certification service whose circled U symbol is found on the labels of many kosher commercial and consumer food products.

Position Summary:

A Community Habilitation Worker works one-on-one with individuals with developmental disabilities to facilitate community inclusion and work towards personal goals. Part-time positions available in Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, Long Island, and Staten Island. Schedule is very flexible, with evening and weekend hours available.

Responsibilities:

  • Working directly with individuals in their home or out in the community
  • Planning and implementing activities that help foster independence and promote community involvement
  • Helping individuals develop social and relationship-building skills
  • Supporting individuals in developing and achieving personal goals
  • Completing paperwork to track an individual's monthly progress and monitor their work towards specific goals
  • Modeling productive and appropriate behavior for the individuals you work with

Requirements:

  • A desire to work with adults with disabilities
  • Must be diligent and responsible
  • Ability to provide positive motivation to others
  • Must be caring, dedicated, and patient

Salary & Benefits:

The salary range for this position is $20 - $21 per hour, commensurate with experience.
