Job description

The Opportunity
As a Health Care Aide (HCA), you will work as a member of the care team, collaborating on the delivery of resident care. The Health Care Aide, under the supervision of a Licensed Practical Nurse, applies their knowledge and skills in order to provide a wide variety of safe and thorough basic care and services to residents.
What You Will Do

  • Work to your full scope of practice and provide resident focused care.
  • Observe residents for any changes in resident status when tub bathing, washing, cleaning, dressing, and changing residents. Report any changes in the resident's condition to the Staff Nurse as soon as possible.
  • Participate in the development of the Nursing Care Plan (NCP) by sharing observations, information and knowledge of the needs and strengths of the residents.
  • Share this information with other members of the nursing team and the health care team (Collaborative Care Model) so that the plan addresses the resident's individual needs in a holistic way (Philosophy of Caring/Wellness Model).
  • Assist and accompany residents in moving about the community with walking as well as participate in functions.
  • Report any unsafe activities that may cause harm or injure a resident.


What You Will Bring

  • Graduate of Health Care Aide program (or provincial equivalent certificate program with minimum 500 hours of theory & practicum).
  • Experience working with seniors in the community health services setting.
  • Must possess strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer focus skills.
  • Must have demonstrated sound skills and knowledge of providing personal care duties.
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support and First Aid certification recommended.
  • Ability to perform tasks that are necessary for the position, e.g. lifting/transferring clients.
  • Must provide a complete and current (within six months) Vulnerable Sector Check (including a Criminal Background Check) or be willing to obtain one.
