What is the difference between Community Foundation vs Nonprofit Program Coordinator?
| Aspect | Community Foundation | Nonprofit Program Coordinator |
|---|---|---|
| Credentials | Bachelor's degree often required; certifications like CFRE are a plus | Bachelor's degree in social work, nonprofit management, or related field; certifications vary |
| Work Environment | Fundraising events, grant management, community outreach in office and field | Program implementation, community engagement, event planning in nonprofit settings |
| Employer & Industry | Foundations supporting multiple nonprofits, community development | Individual nonprofit organizations, charities, social service agencies |
While both roles focus on community impact, a Community Foundation manages funds and grants across multiple nonprofits, whereas a Nonprofit Program Coordinator directly implements programs within a specific organization. The foundation oversees broader community initiatives, while the coordinator handles day-to-day program activities.

Job description
Note: This is a full-time ACC AmeriCorps position with Mobile Communidad (DBA JDC Community Foundation)
About the American Connection Corps:
The American Connection Corps (ACC), an AmeriCorps program of Lead For America (LFA), is a service fellowship program aimed at helping communities build the digital connectivity necessary to expand opportunity and economic mobility, ranging from healthcare access to quality employment.
ACC Members spend a year serving with locally-rooted organizations, helping address the digital divide and strengthen access to opportunity. Through their service, they gain hands-on experience, build in-demand skills, and explore career pathways while making a tangible impact in their communities.
About Mobile Communidad (JDC Community Foundation)
The mission of JDC Community Foundation is to provide accessibility to healthy food, technology, literacy, and economic stability through community engagement, and collaborative partnerships
Position Overview
The ACC Member will serve as a Community Technology Liaison, a trusted local presence who helps residents navigate digital tools, services, and opportunities that can improve their lives. Under the guidance and supervision of program and host site staff, the Member will provide hands-on technology assistance, build digital confidence among underserved residents, and connect people to resources and referrals in healthcare, employment, and civic engagement. The role is intentionally flexible and place-driven: the Member will support staff in identifying community digital access needs and respond through approved service activities, whether that means one-on-one coaching with a senior navigating telehealth, helping a Spanish-speaking family access online information and community resources, or supporting regional broadband adoption efforts through community outreach, digital literacy education, and resource navigation.
The Member will not provide case management, determine eligibility for benefits or services, or perform independent program management or professional technology consulting. Impact will be measured through service activities and outcomes documented in accordance with program requirements, including community connections made, residents served, and participation in approved digital inclusion activities.
Key Responsibilities
The ACC Member will:
I. Provide Digital Navigation Support
- Offer one-on-one assistance to residents with internet connectivity, device use, and basic to intermediate digital literacy, at community locations as needed and under the guidance of program staff.
- Help residents access online services related to healthcare, employment, education, and benefits by providing information, digital navigation support, and referrals to appropriate service providers as needed. The Member will not determine eligibility for benefits or provide case management services.
II. Support Training and Skill Development
- Assist staff with identifying participant learning needs and preparing appropriate training plans based on identified community needs.
- Help adapt or assist staff in developing and updating curriculum and materials for individual and small-group training sessions.
- Support the delivery of training sessions tailored to varying digital skill levels and age groups using curriculum, materials, and guidance provided or approved by program staff.
III. Support the Upper Rio Grande Regional Broadband Working Group
- Assist Broadband Working Group leadership in gathering information regarding community technology needs through direct resident engagement.
- Help gather and organize input from residents, businesses, and community organizations to inform Broadband Working Group priorities.
- Support outreach efforts that help connect Broadband Working Group initiatives to tangible community impacts through digital inclusion, education, and resource awareness activities.
IV. Community Outreach and Public Engagement
- Assist with the design and distribution, under staff direction, of outreach materials (flyers, social media content, newsletter items) to publicize available services and training.
- Support community presence at local events, schools, and gathering spaces to build awareness of digital resources.
- Help draft short articles or updates for local newsletters, websites, or regional media to raise awareness of digital equity efforts in the community, subject to staff review and approval.
V. Data Collection and Reporting
- Track participation in technology assistance and training activities in accordance with program procedures and reporting requirements.
- Help compile data and resident stories to support reporting and program improvement for staff review and approved program purposes.
VI. Build Community Partnerships
- Support relationship-building with the Fort Davis library, Fort Davis ISD, Jeff Davis County, local businesses, and other community organizations to extend the reach of services.
- Share observations and resident feedback with JDCCF staff and Broadband Working Group leadership to help inform ongoing work.
VII. Plan and Report on Service Activities
- Coordinate and carry out assigned service activities, maintain awareness of community needs identified through approved service activities, and provide regular updates to the Site Supervisor through weekly one-on-one check-ins.
All activities are performed under the guidance and supervision of host site and program staff. The Member will not engage in prohibited AmeriCorps activities, including lobbying, political activities, grant writing, fundraising, or activities that displace or supplant staff, contractors, or volunteers.
Learning & Development Opportunities
As an ACC Member, you will receive structured training and support throughout your service year, including:Â
- A two-week-long virtual orientation with the national cohort to kick off the service year.
- A week-long, in-person national Winter Institute convening with your ACC cohort - travel, lodging, and a per diem stipend are fully covered.
- Twice-monthly virtual training on skills for service, including project management, asset-based community development, grant writing, and serving vulnerable populations, plus self-paced curricula with opportunities to earn badges and credentials.
- A structured community listening tour at the start of service to understand local needs, assets, and opportunities.
- Dedicated 1:1 support from a Lead For America Program Coordinator and twice-monthly peer pod meetings for networking and professional development.
- Access to a national network of ACC Members, alumni, and community partners.
Requirements
- Passion for community service and connecting your neighbors to the digital tools, skills, and opportunities they need to thrive.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Interest in gaining experience in community development or digital inclusion.
Eligibility:
- Be a U.S. Citizen, National, or Lawful Permanent Resident.
- Hold a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Be 17 years of age or older by the start of service.
- Have not already served four (4) or more AmeriCorps State/National terms.Â
Timeline:
We are currently recruiting Members to serve from September 8th, 2026 - August 13th, 2027. Members will serve full-time (approximately 40 hours per week), completing 1700 hours of service over the course of the term.
Application Process:
- Submit Your Application: Complete the application on the next page to join our general talent pool.
- Host Site Review: Our host site organization will review your application, and invite those moving forward to interview.
- Lead For America Interview: Finalist candidates will be invited to interview with the Lead For America team.
Benefits
Full-time ACC Members receive:Â
- A $33,000 living stipend (dispersed bi-weekly over the course of the service term)
- A $7,395 Segal Education Award through AmeriCorps, which can be applied to education-related expenses after the program concludes (including repayment of qualifying student loans).
- Healthcare coverage (if applicable).
- Access to childcare benefits.
- Student loan forbearance during your year of service.
- Fully-funded ACC Winter Institute druing the year.
