Organization Overview
The American Indian Community Development Corporation (AICDC) is a culturally rooted nonprofit organization dedicated to strengthening American Indian communities in the Twin Cities metro area. Founded in 1992, AICDC provides culturally unique initiatives, housing, and entrepreneurial programs that improve the lives and livelihoods of American Indian people. Through decades of service, AICDC has built strong, trusted relationships with Tribal Governments and community partners, working collaboratively to deliver respectful, community-driven services.
Position Summary:
The Health Care Assistant (HCA) provides direct support to clients and nursing staff within AICDC's Withdrawal Management services. This role works closely with clients, fellow HCAs, and medical staff to ensure compassionate, quality client care in a safe and professional environment. Responsibilities include assisting with client admissions, monitoring client status, taking vital signs, maintaining unit standards, and communicating relevant information to nursing staff. The HCA also supports daily unit operations and performs additional duties as assigned by the Lead Health Care Assistant, Nurse on Duty, or Charge Nurse.
This position may be part-time, with employees scheduled for up to 30 hours a week, based on business needs, or on an on-call basis.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with client admissions, including completion of client intake documentation
- Take and document client vital signs in accordance with unit policy
- Physical Agility: Must be able to initiate or participate in physical restraint of a client.
- Lift and/or Carry: Must be able to assist in lifting a client and/or assist in carrying a client to another areas, potentially 25-100+ ัounds.
- Monitor client status by conducting hourly unit rounds and reporting findings to nursing staff
- Document client information accurately and timely in accordance with policies and procedures
- Communicate necessary observations or concerns to the nurse on duty
- Ensure assigned stations, checklists, and duties are completed during each shift
- Maintain a professional, safe, and respectful triage and unit environment
- Follow all unit policies, procedures, and workplace standards
- Perform duties as outlined on the duty roster and as directed by nursing staff
- Attend and actively participate in required training for Withdrawal Management staff(minimum of 15 hours per year)
- Perform other duties as assigned by management that are reasonable and in the best interest of AICDC and its clients

- Physical Agility: Ability to initiate or participate in physical restraint of a client when required
- Lifting/Carrying: Ability to assist with lifting or carrying clients, potentially weighing 25-100+ pounds
- Stooping/Kneeling: Ability to administer first aid and/or CPR for extended periods as needed
- Pushing/Pulling: Ability to move clients, beds, or chairs, including opening doors
- Climbing: Ability to climb up to three flights of stairs during emergency evacuations
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Demonstrated problem-solving and communication skills
- Ability to work sensitively with individuals experiencing chemical dependency, homelessness, unemployment, and diverse cultural backgrounds
- Ability to take direction from a variety of personnel and work effectively as part of a team
- Basic computer proficiency
- Ability to pass a Minnesota Department of Human Services (MDHS) background check
- Minimum of six (6) months freedom from chemical use/abuse problems
- Must remain free from chemical use problems as a condition of continued employment; employment will be terminated immediately if chemical use problems arise
- Six (6) months of direct client or patient care experience
- Knowledge of Electronic Medical Records (EMR) Systems
