Cedarville University invites applications for the position of Director of Development. This full-time, exempt position (FLSA; 2080 annual hours) provides leadership for athletic marketing, sponsorships, and special events while supporting a culture of competitive athletics that develops student-athletes to make a meaningful impact. A key responsibility of this position is coordinating and developing the sponsorship process for the athletic department, while cultivating donor relationships and strengthening engagement with alumni, community partners, and supporters of Cedarville Athletics.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Strive to reflect the athletic department core values: Love for God, Love for Others, Integrity in Conduct, Excellence in Effort. Will offer ongoing support to develop a culture that emphasizes these values
  • Provide oversight to athletic department community engagement efforts
  • Oversee budgets for each area of oversight
  • Serves on Athletic Department Administrative Team
  • Oversee and coordinate the planning for sponsor displays at events
  • Directly supervise all Athletic Department special events
  • Provide oversight to the Yellow Jacket Club
  • Provide Vice President for Athletics with leads for Athletic Development
  • Cultivate, identify, and develop new donor relationships to expand and strengthen financial support for the Athletic Department
  • Oversee the development/sales of the Athletic department sponsorships and partnerships
  • In partnership with the Cedarville University Advancement Division, manage relationships with an assigned portfolio of approximately 40 athletic donor prospects who have demonstrated capacity to make gifts of $5,000 or more annually. Responsible for qualifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding each relationship according to established performance metrics including but not limited to total number of contacts, visits and funds raised in a fiscal year and portfolio permeation percentage. Required travel 3-5 days per month.
  • Participate in all aspects of the gift cycle:
    • Assist in the identification of major gift prospects
    • Qualify major gift prospects through personal contacts and visits
    • Draw prospects into a strong relationship with the University by connecting with their philanthropic interests. All interactions must reflect respect for the individual, sensitivity to his/her needs, and integrity in conduct.
    • Create and implement solicitation plans for all primary donor assignments.
    • Maintain stewardship contacts with donors to enhance giving satisfaction.
  • Work collaboratively with University staff, faculty, and leadership to effectively cultivate and steward donor relationships, applying sound strategy and humility.
  • Represent the University at donor, community, and alumni events as requested
  • Maintain relationships with sports partners by means of regular written, verbal, and face-to-face communication
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of donor appreciation and donor funded events
  • Assist with athletic capital campaigns as needed
  • Direct, develop, and sustain relationships with CU student-athlete alumni
  • Promote the athletic program whenever possible and serve as a liaison with alumni, campus, community, media, and the general public
  • Maintain a commitment to NCAA, Conference, and University rule compliance
  • Report any NCAA, G-MAC, and University rule violations to the Assistant AD for Compliance
  • Assist in the completion of NCAA reports
  • Understand that violations of NCAA, Conference, or University rules and regulations may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment
  • Assist in the monitoring of campus policy and department policy within the Athletic department
  • Coordinate CU Fridays for the Athletic Department, including setup and securing staff
  • Serve on appropriate campus committees
  • Document activity according to department standards and policies
  • Attend monthly Advancement Development Team meetings
  • Participate and prepare for two dynamic portfolio reviews annually
  • Other duties as assigned by the Vice President for Athletics

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's Degree preferred
  • Previous advancement of athletics programs experience helpful
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills required
  • Highly organized and self-motivated with attention to prompt, accurate, and professional service
  • A pleasant and professional personality
  • Proficient computer skills required. Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Access, and Power Point preferred
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality

Required Mental/Physical Abilities
  • Excellent communication and people skills
  • Ability to receive detailed information and exchange ideas through oral communication
  • Have knowledge of and ability to use word processing and e-mail computer programs
  • Able to climb stairs and lift objects up to 25 pounds

  • Periodic interactions with inclement weather due to the nature of the position
