Job description

TITLE:  SIGN LANGUAGE INTERPRETER 
QUALIFICATIONS: 

 
  1. Eligible for Missouri certification and licensure-Missouri Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing.

  2. Demonstrated signing skills sufficient to meet student needs.  

  3. Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with others.

 

 

 

REPORTS TO:  Building Principal and/or Executive Director of Special Services

 

JOB GOAL:  The interpreter facilitates communication between students with hearing impairments and hearing people in the school community (teachers, students, administrators, other personnel).

 

 

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

 
  1. Through sign language, facilitate communication between students with hearing impairments and hearing people in the school community.

  2. Assist special educators and regular education staff to facilitate student success in regular classrooms.

  3. Assists Special Education Teachers to implement special education and related services.

  4. Interprets for district parents or patrons with hearing impairments for school related business during school hours.

  5. Interpret accurately without personal bias.

  6. Perform other duties as directed by the principal or supervising teacher which are related to facilitating success for students with disabilities.
