As a Dispatcher Communications Officer with Huerfano County, you'll be the calm voice guiding callers through their worst moments, the critical link connecting law enforcement, firefighters, EMS, and other emergency responders, and the person who helps save lives before first responders even arrive. Our dispatchers answer emergency and non-emergency calls, coordinate emergency response resources, provide life-saving Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) instructions, maintain communication with first responders in the field, and ensure responders have the information they need to safely protect our communities. The County is currently filling multiple vacancies and establishing an eligibility list for future Dispatcher Communications Officer I and II openings. This Apprenticeship Program is in the process of becoming a Registered Apprenticeship with the State of Colorado.

Compensation highlights: Starting pay is approximately $42,500 annually during the apprenticeship program Merit increase after successful completion of the first year within the Salary range of $42,500-45,000 Excellent benefits such as health and wellness, and retirement benefits Ideal Candidate Who We're Looking For Successful dispatchers come from many different backgrounds. We're looking for individuals who can: Stay calm under pressure Think critically and make sound decisions Multitask across multiple computer screens and systems Quickly shift priorities without losing focus Communicate clearly and professionally Provide compassionate customer service during stressful situations Work well as part of a close-knit team If you thrive in fast-paced environments and enjoy helping others, you may already have the skills to succeed. Minimum Qualifications Applicants must possess: High School Diploma or GED Valid Colorado Driver's License Ability to type approximately 40-45 words per minute Ability to successfully complete required background investigations Ability to obtain required certifications during the County's paid training program, including: Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) CPR Colorado Crime Information Center (CCIC)/National Crime Information Center (NCIC) FEMA Incident Command certifications Prior dispatch experience is welcomed-but not required.
