Digital Communication Coordinator - Children and Family Services



Location: 12308 111 Avenue #200, Edmonton, Alberta

Position Status: Full Time (40 hrs per week), Permanent

The Otipemisiwak Metis Government is recruiting for a Digital Communications Coordinator to join the Children and Family Services department (CFS). Reporting to the Communications Manager, the successful candidate will support digital communications that amplify the voice of the Otipemisiwak Metis Government and connect Metis children and families to programs, services, and community initiatives. This role plays a key part in promoting Children and Family Services programming, including cultural events, family camps, and community gatherings. The successful candidate will be a creative and motivated individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment, takes initiative, and follows through on projects. They will contribute thoughtful and innovative ideas, collaborate with team members and partners, and help ensure communications are culturally respectful, engaging, and accessible to Metis Citizens.


Key Responsibilities

  • Execute digital communication plans aligning with organizational goals and digital trends.
  • Collaborate with departments and stakeholders to achieve digital communications objectives on various projects.
  • Consistently work to enhance the Children and Family Services department digital media presence.
  • Maintain and update the CFS department's social media platforms.
  • Uphold two-way communication with social media followers on all platforms, ensuring comments and questions are responded to appropriately and in a timely manner.
  • Create and manage engaging digital content that strengthens our audiences' engagement.
  • Create presentations, reports, newsletters, and other communication collateral where needed.
  • Monitor media and note issues, trends, and mentions potentially affecting the Otipemisiwak Metis Government.
  • Execute communication needs at events, including photography and social media, as required.
  • Proactively develop networks with internal and external clients to build relationships.
  • Plan, storyboard, film, and edit video content to support campaigns, events, and initiatives, ensuring alignment with CFS messaging and brand identity.
  • Collaborate with the CFS and the Communications department to achieve communications objectives on various projects.
  • Other duties as required or assigned.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong technical skills, knowledge of digital media, and experience with Content Management Systems (e.g. WordPress).
  • Knowledge and experience with SEO, keyword research, and analytic tools (e.g. Google Analytics).
  • Knowledge of marketing and communications principles and
  • Knowledge of online marketing channels, including post automation software (e.g. Hootsuite, Meltwater) is considered an asset.
  • Superior written and oral communication skills.
  • Competency to work with and convey messages to different audiences.
  • Ability to assess options and implications, engage different perspectives, create strategic solutions for communications challenges, and seek opportunities.
  • Excellent strategic thinking skills with the ability to execute tasks and develop analytical metrics.
  • Ability to effectively manage and prioritize requests, multi-task and meet tight deadlines.
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic environment and be adaptable and flexible to changing priorities.

  • Knowledge of Metis history, culture, and issues affecting Metis people. An in-depth understanding of the Otipemisiwak Metis Government and Metis culture, people, and values.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in communications-related field.
  • Minimum 2 years' experience in a similar communications position.
  • Experience with photography, DSLR cameras, photo editing, and graphic design (e.g. Adobe, Canva) is an asset.
  • Work experience in professional writing, journalism, public relations, or similar, is considered an asset.

Other Requirements

  • Position is based out of Edmonton, Alberta.
  • Ability to work a regular schedule of Monday - Friday, 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM, with occasional evenings and weekends as required.
  • Travel within Alberta is required. Additional, less frequent, out-of-province travel may also occur, with notice.
  • Must have a driver's license, as well as an operational vehicle.
  • Acceptable attainment of a Police Information Check with a Vulnerable Sector Check and an Intervention Record Check is required
