Department: Swinomish Convenience Enterprises
Reports to: Store Manager
Summary:
The Deli Manager is responsible for the overall operation of the deli; organizing, coordinating, and scheduling all subordinate staff within the Swinomish Deli. The Deli Manager is responsible for training all assigned staff in proper food preparation, kitchen safety techniques, and health standards. He/she will maintain inventory control, and monitor food costs, schedule, and employee hours. The Deli Managers will do their best to optimize profit, ensure that all food products coming out of the deli meet the organization's standards of excellence, and create the best dining experience possible for customers.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities of the Deli Manager:
  • Hires, trains, coaches, develops, and mentors subordinate personnel in the process of proper food handling and all aspects of customer service. Continually monitors, evaluates, and disciplines assigned personnel as necessary according to established policies and procedures. Responsible for assigning all work, and the time management of all deli employees.
  • Establishes weekly work schedules for the Deli department and ensures proper staffing coverage. Maintains an awareness of special events and promotions that may affect business levels and schedules staff accordingly to ensure all customers receive exemplary service throughout their experience.
  • Orders, receives, stores, and secures all deli supplies including, but not limited to: food, dry goods, and paper products.
  • Inspects establishment and observes workers and patrons to ensure compliance with Federal and State occupational, health, and safety standards and regulations.
  • Ensures quality and portion control in Deli operations and maintains minimum losses due to breakage and waste of product.
  • Maintains close liaison with the Store Manager and Director to communicate pertinent information concerning the deli department.
  • Works with Store Manager and Director to develop promotional and sales concepts that will increase patronage and the profitability of the department.
  • Ensures the cleanliness, sanitation, maintenance, and attractiveness of the Deli areas.
  • Ensures the highest standards of guest service and satisfaction, including dealing with guest complaints in a prompt and satisfactory manner.
  • All other duties as assigned by the Store Manager and Swinomish Enterprises General Manager.

Education and Experience:
  • Must have a High School Diploma or GED.
  • Must possess a Washington State Food Handler's Permit.
  • Must have a minimum of two year's supervisory experience in the food industry, and have extensive food and beverage service experience and knowledge.
  • Must have general knowledge of Washington State Food Safety laws and regulations.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
  • Knowledge of principles and methods for showing, promoting, and selling products or services. This includes marketing strategy and tactics, product demonstration, sales techniques, and sales control systems.
  • Use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
  • Identify measures or indicators of system performance and the actions needed to improve or correct performance, relative to the goals of the system.
  • Effective communication; written, verbal, and interpersonal skills, including conflict resolution.
  • Must pass a criminal background check and pre-employment drug screening.
