Job description

Diagnostic Medical Sonography Instructor

General Summary Of Duties: The Diagnostic Medical Sonography Instructor is responsible and accountable for ensuring the fulfillment of educational goals and objectives within the classroom. The instructor is directly responsible for selecting, teaching, guiding, and evaluating all student learning experiences in alignment with course outcomes. Instructional methods and learning activities are designed to support the successful achievement of Diagnostic Medical Sonography course objectives and promote student engagement and competency development. This role requires leadership in both academic and workforce preparation areas, including supporting student retention goals; participating in curriculum planning and instructional improvement; monitoring student performance; and motivating and advising students throughout their educational experience. The Diagnostic Medical Sonography Instructor serves as a faculty member and acts as a liaison between students and the administration of Blue Cliff College, fostering clear communication and student support.

Essential Functions:

  • Select, teach, guide, and evaluate all learning experiences in the classroom environment.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of program and course goals, and develop organized plans for instruction and evaluation.
  • Teach assigned courses in accordance with the approved curriculum.
  • Supervise and instruct students during clinical rotations and laboratory activities.
  • Ensure adherence to all Blue Cliff College policies and procedures.
  • Prepare and submit requests for instructional materials, including textbooks, audiovisual aids, and supplies, in support of the annual budget process.
  • Maintain accurate records of student grades and attendance and submit required documentation to the Registrar in a timely manner.
  • Maintain required presence on campus, online, or at an assigned workstation for each scheduled class day.
  • Establish, post, and maintain office hours and makeup time schedules.
  • Serve as a consultant and advisor to current and prospective students.
  • Assist with student registration and orientation activities.
  • Participate in ongoing student assessment and collaborate with the Program Director on student support and problem-solving.
  • Support student lifecycle activities, including recruitment, admissions, retention, withdrawal, and graduation.
  • Attend and participate in professional meetings, conferences, workshops, and continuing professional development activities.
  • Attend meetings of the Diagnostic Medical Sonography faculty and Program Advisory Committee and serve on committees as appointed or elected.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Director, Director of Education, or Campus Director.

Education And Experience:

  • Faculty teaching technical and occupationally related courses in the Diagnostic Medical Sonography AAS program must be qualified by education and experience and demonstrate effectiveness in teaching assigned subject areas.
  • Possess appropriate credential(s) relevant to the concentration in which instruction and student evaluation are provided.
  • Have a minimum of three (3) years of related practical work experience in the subject area(s) taught.
  • Be approved by the applicable state regulatory agency, if required.

Knowledge:

  • The individual should have experience in college-level teaching, demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills, and be an innovative, solution-oriented thinker with demonstrated leadership potential.
