Job Overview
The Georgetown Center for the Constitution (GCC), founded in 2012, offers a variety of programs on constitutional law and theory at Georgetown Law, placing special emphasis on how best to remain faithful to the Constitution's text. Led by Faculty Directors Randy Barnett and Stephanie Barclay, the Center organizes numerous programs on constitutional law and theory. All of the Center's activities are designed to engage scholars, students, and Supreme Court justices in conversations about how to interpret and apply the document that sits under glass less than ten blocks from Georgetown Law.
This role is central to the smooth operation of the Center, ensuring the successful execution of its academic programs, events, and daily activities, including: the Visiting Scholars Program, Visiting Fellows Program, Originalism Summer Seminar, Salmon Chase Distinguished Lecture, Thomas Cooley Judicial Lecture, Bradley Fellows Program, and various faculty colloquia, symposia, and book workshops. The Operations and Communications Assistant will also help with key administrative tasks related to expense reimbursements, event logistics, travel arrangements, budgeting, social media, website maintenance, and coordinating new initiatives such as potential podcasts and video production. This role is central to the smooth operation of the Center and serves as the primary administrative liaison for Faculty Directors Randy Barnett and Stephanie Barclay. The Assistant ensures the successful execution of academic programs and provides comprehensive executive support, managing complex schedules and travel to facilitate the Directors' research, teaching, and public engagements.
The ideal candidate is a highly organized, proactive, and detail-oriented individual with a strong interest in constitutional law.
Work Interactions
The Operations and Communications Assistant reports directly to the Executive Director and works with the Program Assistant and Faculty Directors on Center tasks. This position assists with financial, administrative, logistical, and day-to-day management duties, as well as special projects for the Georgetown Center for the Constitution and its faculty leadership.
Requirements and Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree is required.
  • 1-5 years of relevant administrative or program support experience, preferably in an academic, non-profit, or legal setting. Internships and related experience will be considered.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities, with the capacity to interact professionally with faculty, students, staff, and distinguished guests
  • Experience with digital media and social media platforms is strongly desired.
  • High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, and social media platforms
  • Experience with WordPress is preferred, but a demonstrated ability to learn new programs quickly is essential. An ability to produce and edit podcasts is a plus.
  • A self-starter who can work independently but also thrives as part of a small, collaborative team.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with the utmost discretion.
