A Day in the LifeAs the Director, Category Management - Plastics, Extrusions & Resins, you will provide strategic leadership for one of Medtronic's most critical global spend categories, overseeing approximately $650M in annual spend. This highly visible leadership role will drive the development and execution of enterprise-wide commodity strategies that support Medtronic's Global Operations & Supply Chain network while enabling business growth, innovation, quality, resiliency, and cost optimization.Partnering closely with Operating Units, Supply Management, Engineering, Quality, Operations, R&D, and executive leaders, you will shape long-term category strategies, influence supplier technology roadmaps, mitigate risk across the supply chain, and leverage Medtronic's global purchasing power to create competitive advantage.
This role is ideal for a strategic sourcing leader who combines deep expertise in plastics, extrusions, and resin markets with strong business acumen, executive presence, and a passion for building high-performing supplier partnerships.

As the Director Category Management - Plastics, Extrusions & Resins, you will:
Develop and execute long-term category and supplier strategies for plastics, extrusions, and resins that support business growth, innovation, and operational excellence.
Lead supplier selection, qualification, make-versus-buy decisions, outsourcing initiatives, and supply transitions across a global supply base.
Drive strategic negotiations and managing complex commercial agreements, partnering closely with Legal and key stakeholders to mitigate risk and maximize value.
Monitor market dynamics, technology trends, and competitive intelligence to inform sourcing strategies and strengthen Medtronic's competitive advantage.
Build long-range supply roadmaps and accelerating supplier innovation to support new product development, business continuity, and technology advancement.
Utilize data, analytics, and supplier performance metrics to optimize the supply base, improve resiliency, and identify cost reduction opportunities.
Lead supplier rationalization, regionalization, localization, and strategic alliance initiatives that enhance efficiency and scale.
Develop and leading a high-performing global commodity management team while influencing executive stakeholders and driving alignment across multiple Operating Units.
Through strategic leadership and cross-functional collaboration, you will help shape the future of Medtronic's global supply network while delivering measurable impact on cost, quality, innovation, and patient outcomes.
Must Have: Minimum Requirements
Bachelor's degree plus a minimum of 10 years of strategic sourcing, supply chain, commodity management, or procurement leadership experience plus 7+ years of managerial experience or an advanced degree with a minimum of 8 years of strategic sourcing, supply chain, commodity management, or procurement leadership experience plus 7+ years of managerial experience all within a large, complex, multi-divisional organization.
Minimum of 8 years of experience sourcing and managing global plastics, injection molding, extrusions, and resin categories.
Demonstrated expertise leading complex negotiations and supplier contract management.
Experience developing and maintaining strategic supplier partnerships and alliances.
Experience leading cross-functional teams and influencing stakeholders across a matrixed organization.
Nice to Have
Expertise in raw material markets, polymers, resins, plastics processing, and extrusion technologies.
Experience with supplier innovation programs and technology roadmaps.
CPIM certification or equivalent supply chain credential.
Experience within a highly regulated industry, including medical device, pharmaceutical, aerospace, or similar manufacturing environments.
Knowledge of digital procurement and e-commerce initiatives.
Ability to travel approximately 20%, including domestic and international travel.
Strong analytical, financial, and strategic business acumen, with the ability to translate complex data into actionable insights and effectively influence stakeholders through exceptional written, verbal, and executive-level communication skills.
For Baccalaureate degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree that satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A) is required.
