Position Summary:

The Commodity Manager is a strategic procurement leader responsible for defining and executing multi-year global commodity strategies that maximize value, reduce Total Cost of Ownership (TCO), and protect supply continuity. In this role, you will oversee the full sourcing lifecycle—from market dynamics analysis, spend segmentation, and RFQ execution to high-stakes contract negotiation and risk management. Serving as a key liaison across manufacturing, operations, and leadership, you will cultivate high-value supplier partnerships, manage supplier relationship management frameworks, and leverage market intelligence to optimize portfolio performance.

Commodity Manager Responsibilities:

  • Define and execute multi-year global/regional commodity strategies, establishing sourcing levers, implementation of roadmaps, and projected financial benefits aligned with business objectives.
  • Expand and optimize the Approved Supplier List (ASL) using spend segmentation, supplier capability mapping, and portfolio rationalization.
  • Evaluate commodity maturity, cost drivers, market dynamics, and spend data to identify strategic sourcing opportunities and benchmark competitiveness.
  • Drive cross-functional initiatives to reduce Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) through strategic supplier partnerships, volume bundling, and design optimization.
  • Deliver annual cost-saving and productivity goals utilizing price negotiations, Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VA/VE), and continuous improvement projects.
  • Establish and oversee the Supplier Relationship Management framework, holding suppliers accountable to strict Delivery, Quality, Cost, and Innovation targets.
  • Lead Quarterly Business Reviews (QBRs) and executive supplier summits; maintain comprehensive supplier profiles, scorecards, and risk matrices.
  • Foster strategic supplier partnerships to enhance operational alignment, drive mutual value, and support organizational growth.
  • Manage vendor selection and procurement processes, negotiate contract terms, and oversee agreements to drive value and ensure compliance.
  • Identify, monitor, and mitigate supply chain vulnerabilities, including financial health, capacity bottlenecks, geographic exposure, and regulatory compliance.
  • Partner closely with manufacturing plants and operations teams to monitor supplier capacity and proactively prevent supply disruptions.
  • Act as the primary liaison to resolve critical material shortages, quality issues, or operational bottlenecks rapidly.
  • Monitor global market trends, raw material indices, and macroeconomic factors to forecast cost fluctuations and advise leadership on market shifts.

Commodity Manager Qualifications:

Base requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferred in Supply Chain Management, Operations or Engineering.
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in strategic sourcing, commodity management, or procurement with regional/global categories of spend.
  • Proven capability in supplier evaluation, contract negotiation, and strategic supplier relationship management.
  • Advanced proficiency in developing multi-year commodity roadmaps, spend segmentation, supplier capability mapping, and portfolio rationalization.
  • Competency in identifying and mitigating supply vulnerabilities, including supplier financial risk, geographic exposure, capacity limits, and regulatory issues.
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes, cost drivers, and market dynamics for assigned commodities.
  • Strong crisis management skills to rapidly troubleshoot material shortages and operational bottlenecks under pressure.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to professionally interact with internal and external stakeholders at all levels in the organization.
  • Ability to travel up to 20% domestically and internationally.

  • Must be authorized to work in the United States. No Visa sponsorship provided now or in the future for this position.

Preferred requirements:

  • Experience in plastics and electronics commodities preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with modern ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle) and advanced analytics or AI-driven costing tools.
  • Industry recognized certifications such as APICS (CPIM/CSCP) or ISM (CPSM) are highly desirable.
