Job description

Job Title: Laborer/Greeter/Forklift Operator.
Reports To: Facilities Manager.
Job Type: Full-Time, Non-Exempt.
Location: 1515 Scottsville Rd., Rochester, NY 14623.
Hours: Monday - Friday 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
Overtime: Saturdays 8:00am to 12:00pm, as needed or requested.
Compensation: $19-22/hr. based on experience & skills.
Purpose:
The purpose of the Metal Inspector/Greeter/Laborer position is to greet each peddler as they come off the scale, assign correct commodity codes for the material being brought in, direct the peddler to the appropriate drop-off location(s) and work in the warehouse as needed for additional coverage.
Responsibilities:
  • Provide quality customer service.
  • Greet and assist customers in a friendly and courteous manner.
  • Inspect scrap load in order to identify prohibited items, assign correct commodity codes and assign deductions according to best practices.
  • Identify and record inspection data to include the weight, grade, content and quantity of scrap metal.
  • Ensure customers are dropping the correct material in the correct designated areas.
  • Direct peddler to drop-off location(s).
  • Communicate via 2-way radio with the Weigh Master and yard personnel.
  • Direct peddler through outbound scale and instruct on payout procedure.
  • Maintain a work area representative of a safe, organized, efficient and clean environment.
  • Safely operates forklift or skid steer to unload/load customer vehicles and/or trucks. Also utilize forklift to dump containers. Transfer material from one container or area to appropriate location. 
  • Learn to identify and sort ferrous and nonferrous materials, light maintenance and/or clean up.
  • Perform and complete all work assigned in a safe, efficient, and productive manner.
  • Cross train in various tasks as needed. 
  • Ability to understand and carry out written and verbal instructions, work independently. 
  • Must be able to work assigned schedule.
  • Must be able to perform a variety of tasks in all kinds of weather/seasons.
  • Communicate with managers, supervisors, co-workers, and customers clearly and respectfully.
  • Required to wear proper PPE (steel toed boots, hard hats, safety glasses). 

Qualifications:
  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Experience in general labor in heavy manufacturing environments.
  • Able to operate skid steers, forklifts, loaders a plus.
  • People skills, strong belief in customer service, team player.
  • Organized, consistent, and good at multitasking 
  • Work out in the elements throughout the year.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. and stand for long periods of time
  • Knowledge of the various ferrous and non-ferrous metals is a plus.
  • Reliable transportation to work.
  • Prior to hiring- Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical, drug test, and pre-employment screening.
