Requisition Summary

As a Senior Commodity Manager, you will have the opportunity to negotiate and manage all aspects of PACCAR's relationship with suppliers, including the commercial/contractual requirements with respect to total cost, technology, quality, delivery, customer service, aftermarket support, and logistics. Commodity Managers are change agents, focused on delivering the highest value to internal and external customers at the lowest total cost. This role is based out of the PACCAR Corporate offices in Bellevue, WA or Lewisville, TX.
Job Functions / Responsibilities
  • Leads strategic sourcing and supplier management for wiring harnesses, battery cables, connectors, terminals, and related electrical distribution components, driving cost, quality, delivery, and technology objectives.
  • Partners with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Suppliers to evaluate harness and battery cable designs for cost optimization, manufacturability, value engineering, and design-to-cost initiatives throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Leverages expertise in wiring harness architecture, routing, packaging, materials, and manufacturing processes to identify cost drivers, benchmark designs, and support sourcing decisions.
  • Develops should-cost models and conducts detailed cost analyses for harness assemblies and battery cable systems, including labor content, material utilization, tooling, and supplier manufacturing strategies.
  • Collaborates with product development teams early in the design phase to influence component selection, supplier strategy, and sourcing decisions that improve total cost of ownership and supply chain resilience.
  • Evaluates supplier technical capabilities, manufacturing processes, and design support resources to ensure alignment with current and future product requirements.
  • Negotiate and assure supplier compliance to long-term supply and warranty agreements.
  • Issue formal Requests for Information, Proposals and Quotes (RFI's, RFP's, and RFQ's) and analyze responses to make sound commercial judgments and sourcing recommendations.
  • Collaborate with PACCAR operations worldwide to successfully develop and execute global supply chain and commodity strategies.
  • Communicate and conduct meetings and formal presentations with suppliers, plant, and division personnel at all management levels.
  • Travel to suppliers and PACCAR's operating locations to negotiate, evaluate capabilities, assess production readiness, and investigate new opportunities.
  • Other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications & Skills
Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Engineering, Supply Chain Management or related field.
  • 7+ years of work experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of sourcing, supply chain, engineering, logistics or related experience.
  • Creative, self-motivated quality and results-driven work ethic.
  • Strong writing, analytical and organizational skills; with great attention to detail and multitasking abilities.
  • Strong understanding of fundamental contract terms and be able to draft supply contracts.
  • Strong understanding of cost drivers and how changes in those drivers affect cost.
  • Ability to conceptualize and implement cost savings projects, and to influence supplier behavior to meet PACCAR requirements.
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in written form to various levels of management and suppliers.
  • Ability to perform market research to identify and evaluate potential new suppliers.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel capabilities as well as PC skills (Word, Access & PowerPoint)
  • Experienced negotiator with demonstrated favorable results.

Preferred:
  • Experience with parts purchasing, design, manufacturing, supply chain management and/or commercial truck or automotive experience.
  • Project Team participation and/or Project Management experience.
  • Background in wiring harness or electrical systems engineering
  • Experience in harness design, validation, costing, manufacturing, or supplier development
  • Desire to apply their technical expertise in a strategic sourcing leadership role.
  • Master's degree or MBA.
