Position Overview: The Trading Operations Analyst within Middle Office at MPC supports cargo-level tracking and performance benchmarking for Clean Products. The Trading Operations Analyst collaborates with the Clean Products Trading, Commercial Risk, and Fuels Value Chain (FVC) Product Supply teams to ensure every cargo is captured, priced, and valued consistently in its trade life cycle from procurement to final sale. Reporting to the Performance Measurement Value Chain Director, this role is central to quantifying the value Commercial Trading provides, as well calibrating the Operating P&L KPIs that make Commercial Trading value visible. This position is open to Houston, TX.

Key Responsibilities
  • Cross-functional collaboration with Commercial Trading, Risk, and FVC Product Supply teams to validate cargo-level data flows and ensure consistent valuation methodology is applied across trading desks.
  • Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to automate and standardize cargo tracking and benchmarking processes to reduce manual reconciliation effort and improve reporting turnaround time.
  • Develop and maintain benchmarking frameworks comparing realized trading outcomes (freight capture, grade/quality differentials, market structure, geographic arbitrage and derivatives) vs. industry markers.
  • Partner with Commercial Trading to calibrate KPIs for Clean Products Trading (e.g. net position, market structure, optionality capture, grade differential capture) and incorporate into Operating P&L Reporting.
  • Lead feedback discussions with Traders on performance metrics, physical and priced positions.
  • Create and distribute recurring reports for Commercial Trading and Management including P&L, exposure summaries, risk metrics, and operational performance metrics.
  • Complete ad-hoc analytical projects and presentations as requested by business stakeholders.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Marketing, Economics, Engineering, or related discipline required.
  • Five (5) or more years of experience in Middle Office, Commercial, Commercial Risk, Trading Analytics, Scheduling, or Marketing required.
  • High proficiency in Excel is required.
  • Competent in Power BI, Right Angle preferred.
  • Knowledge of trade lifecycle, market structure, pricing and deal valuation preferred.
