Job description


The commissioning manager/ commissioning engineer position is responsible for leading and managing the commissioning process for new construction, renovation, and existing building projects. Commissioning ensures that mechanical, electrical, plumbing, controls, and life safety systems are designed, installed, tested, operated, and maintained in accordance with the Owner's Project Requirements (OPR), Basis of Design (BOD), applicable codes, and industry best practices.
Responsibilities
Project Leadership
  • Serve as the lead commissioning project manager for multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Develop and maintain project-specific commissioning plans, schedules, and issue logs.
  • Facilitate commissioning kick-off meetings, design reviews, construction meetings, and functional performance testing activities.
  • Coordinate activities among owners, architects, engineers, contractors, TAB firms, and controls vendors.

Design & Construction Review
  • Review Owner's Project Requirements (OPR) and Basis of Design (BOD) documentation.
  • Conduct design and submittal reviews for commissioning, maintenance, and operational performance.
  • Verify commissioning requirements are incorporated into project specifications and construction documents.
  • Identify and communicate potential performance issues early in the project lifecycle.

Functional Performance Testing & Verification
  • Develop pre-functional checklists and functional performance test procedures.
  • Witness startup activities, TAB verification, controls integration, and system testing.
  • Lead functional performance testing of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, lighting controls, building automation systems, and renewable energy systems.
  • Verify systems perform in accordance with design intent and owner requirements.
  • Maintain commissioning documentation and issue resolution logs.
  • Prepare field observation reports, commissioning reports, and final project closeout documentation.
  • Track deficiencies through resolution and verify corrective actions.
  • Provide executive-level updates on project status, risks, and commissioning metrics.

Owner Support & Training
  • Support owner turnover and occupancy readiness activities.
  • Review O&M manuals and training documentation.
  • Verify facility staff training is completed and documented.
  • Provide recommendations to improve operational performance and energy efficiency.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering (preferred),
  • 5+ years of commissioning, MEP engineering
  • Industry certification (preferred) Certified Commissioning Authority (CxA), Certified Building Commissioning Professional (CBCP), Certified Commissiong Professional (CCP) or similar
  • Strong understanding of HVAC, BAS/controls, electrical, plumbing, and life safety systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and sequence of operations.
  • Experience leading functional performance testing and troubleshooting building systems.
  • Strong technical writing, project management, and client-facing communication skills.
  • Ability to travel to project sites as required.

  • Certified Building Commissioning Professional (CBCP)
  • Certified Commissiong Professional (CCP)
  • LEED AP
  • Experience with California Title 24 requirements/Green building certification commissioning.
  • Knowledge of data centers, healthcare, higher education, laboratory, and commercial building commissioning.

What we offer:
  • Total Rewards: We understand compensation is an important factor as you consider the next step in your career . The estimated salary range for this position is $105,000 to $130,000 and is based on multiple factors, including job-related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location, as well as other factors. This position is eligible for annual bonus compensation with a target payout of 10% of the base salary. This position also provides health benefits such as medical, dental and vision; wellness benefits such as mental and financial health; and retirement savings (401K) commensurate with the standard rewards offered in each individual location or country. We also provide full-time employees with paid time off including vacation (15 days), holiday including personal days (12 days) and sick time off (72 hours).
