The Texas Workforce Commission, a Certified Best Place for Working Parents, is looking for a Communications Coordinator (Information Specialist II-III) to work in a dynamic, fast-paced office on matters that impact the lives of Texans on a daily basis. The job is based in our agency headquarters on the north lawn of the Texas State Capitol in Austin. WHAT YOU WILL DO:

The Communications Coordinator (Information Specialist II-III) performs moderately to highly complex (senior-level) informational and communications work involving the collection of information to develop, create, and produce content and materials for release to various communications media. This position reports to the Office of the Commissioner Representing the Public. This role involves planning, developing, and implementing a focused and disciplined communications strategy. You will work under general to limited supervision, with limited to moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Primary responsibilities include drafting formal remarks, video scripts, quotes, social media posts, and correspondence, developing and maintaining a communications calendar, developing and maintaining a social media strategy and calendar, and compiling and drafting internal and external communications.

The Office of the Public Commissioner is comprised of a small but dedicated team that collaborates to best prepare the Commissioner for all the legal and policy decisions made in the performance of his role, as well as outreach, stakeholder meetings, speaking engagements, and office management.

YOU WILL BE TRUSTED TO:
  • Assist in developing a disciplined communications strategy including procedures, standards, and manuals to meet objectives and goals within the Commissioner's office.
  • Perform a wide array of writing including formal remarks, video scripts, quotes, social media posts, and correspondence for the Office of Commissioner Representing the Public.
  • Support and promote the work of the Public Commissioner’s Office by developing and maintaining a communications calendar, a social media strategy, and performance analytics.
  • Market programs to community and professional groups to encourage interest and secure support.
  • Draft and coordinate internal and external communications.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with program staff in developing and drafting external communications.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
YOU QUALIFY WITH:
  • Information Specialist II:Two years of full-time experience in positions involving such activities as writing, scripting, editing, media relations, journalism, public relations, advertising, preparation of public information releases and reports, and other news materials, or performing related activities in a public or private enterprise.
  • Information Specialist III: Three years of full-time experience in positions involving such activities as writing, scripting, editing, media relations, journalism, public relations, advertising, preparation of public information releases and reports, and other news materials, or performing related activities in a public or private enterprise.
  • Both Levels: Relevant academic credits may be applied toward experience qualifications for this position.
