Job description

Job Summary

Vice President of Construction – responsible for leading the Construction & Warranty Department, providing field leadership for all construction activities, managing and motivating direct reports, and ensuring highest product quality delivered on time and within budget.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure construction positions are well staffed with competent technical, cost control, administrative, and customer service skills.
  • Provide training to the Superintendent group.
  • Manage construction budgets for each home, reporting any shortages/overages.
  • Collaborate with functional peers, fostering a team environment with Superintendents, Sales, and Marketing for effective communication and problem solving.
  • Ensure labor trades follow OSHA rules and provide weekly performance feedback.
  • Recruit and evaluate subcontractors for quality standards and scheduling deadlines.
  • Support land acquisition and development activities as needed.
  • Ensure understanding and adherence to the safety program by all construction personnel.
  • Ensure all construction personnel are trained on the warranty program.
  • Monitor schedules and ensure each home meets its timeline.
  • Monitor and ensure success of the Quality Control process.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Additional Responsibilities

Interview, select, and train employees; set rates of pay and hours of work; appraise productivity; handle employee grievances or complaints; discipline employees; determine work techniques; plan the work; apportion work among employees; determine equipment or materials needed; plan budgets for work; monitor legal and regulatory compliance; provide safety and security of the workplace.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction, Business, or related field.
  • 8-10 years experience in a similar management-level position with a high-volume homebuilder.
  • Five years direct experience in progressively responsible positions with a production homebuilder.
  • General Contractor’s license as applicable.
  • Computer literacy; formal OSHA training preferred.
  • Strong relationship skills.
  • Strong self-organization, planning, and problem-solving skills.
  • Business acumen, customer focus, drive for results, priority setting, self-knowledge.
