Job description

About the Role

TAE Technologies develops radio frequency systems for plasma heating on current and next‑generation fusion devices and for optional plasma sources. These systems span operating frequencies from 10MHz to 10GHz and power levels from tens of kilowatts to 1MW. The successful candidate will collaborate with engineering and physics teams to design antennas, matching networks, transmission lines, and instrumentation, procure components, and oversee commissioning and operation. Working closely with RF physicists, the role ensures systems meet defined performance requirements.

Responsibilities
  • Design antennas, matching networks, transmission lines, and instrumentation for RF systems.
  • Procure component parts and manage the supply process.
  • Commission and operate RF systems, ensuring they meet performance specifications.
  • Collaborate with RF physicists to refine system designs.
  • Identify and resolve design shortcomings and propose improvements.
  • Present complex RF problems in a clear, effective manner to cross‑functional teams.
  • Work independently and as part of the RF team.
Qualifications
  • Experience with Matlab/Simulink or similar modeling tools for antennas, matching networks, and transmission lines.
  • Experience handling RF hardware at power levels of at least 50kW using solid‑state or vacuum‑tube technology.
  • Experience in amplitude, frequency, and phase control of multiple RF sources.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to identify and correct design shortcomings.
  • Capacity to rapidly acquire new knowledge about RF systems and propose innovative approaches.
Project Experience
  • At least 5years of experience with radio frequency systems in an industrial, scientific, or broadcasting environment.
Preferred Experience
  • Interest in large‑scale science or R&D projects.
Education
  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • M.S. in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline (preferred).
Compensation & Benefits

Compensation range: $150,000 – $180,000 annually.

  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage.
  • 401(k) plan with company match.
  • Paid vacation and sick leave.
  • Company‑wide holiday in December.
  • Wellness program and parental leave.
  • Payment rewards for referrals, new research, and patents.
  • Potential equity participation.
  • Collaborative environment with opportunities to cross‑functional work.
  • HQ located in Southern California with employee events on and off‑site.
  • Commitment to an inclusive organization with support for employees with disabilities.
