Job description

Position Overview

The Assistant Director of Coaching (ADOC) manages the technical, tactical, and operational development of the MLS NEXT Academy and the National League Academy Programs, plus all other competitive teams, ages U13 โ€“ U19. This leadership role supports the Technical Director and Director of Coaching in implementing the club's soccer philosophy, managing coaching staff, and optimizing the player pathway to elite levels.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership & Curriculum

  • Implement the club curriculum and Game Model across all MLS NEXT, NAL, and U13-U19 age groups.
  • Monitor training sessions to ensure adherence to technical standards โ€“ TOVO Institute.
  • Design game models aligned with elite youth development frameworks.
  • Evaluate match performances using video analysis and statistical data.

Staff Management & Education

  • Mentor academy coaches through regular evaluations and feedback.
  • Lead professional development workshops and technical staff meetings.
  • Assist in hiring qualified, licensed coaching staff.
  • Ensure compliance with MLS NEXT and NAL coaching certification requirements.

Player Identification & Development

  • Oversee scouting operations to recruit top talent locally and regionally.
  • Assist with Video analysis and player performance metrics.
  • Manage player evaluation processes and tri-annual performance reviews and performance improvement plans (PIPs).
  • Direct individual development plans (IDPs) for high-potential players.
  • Facilitate player promotion through the academy age-group pipeline.

Operations & Compliance

  • Serve as a primary liaison with MLS NEXT and NAL league administrators.
  • Enforce roster rules, player registration guidelines, and compliance standards.
  • Ensure proper player rotations and minimum player minutes are achieved during the season.
  • Coordinate travel logistics for regional and national showcase events.
  • Maintain communication with parents regarding schedules and expectations.

Qualifications & Skills

Education & Licensure

  • US Soccer "A" or "B" License (or foreign equivalent) required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Sports Management, Kinesiology, or related field preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum 3 years coaching in MLS NEXT, NAL, or USYS National League, or collegiate levels.
  • Proven track record of developing youth players into collegiate or professional ranks.
  • Experience in staff management and curriculum design.

Competencies

  • Deep understanding of the US youth soccer landscape and MLS NEXT and NAL regulations.
  • Proficiency in video analysis software (e.g., Hudl, Veo, Spiideo).
  • Excellent communication and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Strong organizational skills for managing elite sporting events.
