Commission Simulation Software Engineer information

What does a Commission Simulation Software Engineer do?

A Commission Simulation Software Engineer designs, develops, and maintains software tools that model and simulate the performance of commission systems, often in the context of sales or energy industries. They work to ensure that simulation software accurately reflects real-world commission structures and calculations, enabling organizations to predict outcomes, optimize processes, and validate system behavior before deployment. This role typically involves programming, collaborating with stakeholders to understand business logic, and testing simulation accuracy to support decision-making.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Commission Simulation Software Engineer?

To thrive as a Commission Simulation Software Engineer, you need a solid background in software development, simulation modeling, and systems engineering, often supported by a degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field. Familiarity with simulation tools (like MATLAB/Simulink), programming languages (such as Python or C++), and experience with version control systems are typically required, and certifications in relevant software may be advantageous. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective teamwork and communication skills help you excel in collaborating with cross-functional teams. Mastery of these skills and tools ensures accurate simulations, efficient troubleshooting, and the successful commissioning of complex engineering systems.

How does a Commission Simulation Software Engineer typically collaborate with sales and finance teams during the development process?

A Commission Simulation Software Engineer often works closely with sales and finance teams to understand commission structures, business rules, and reporting requirements. Regular meetings or workshops are common to clarify needs, gather feedback, and validate simulation results. This cross-functional collaboration ensures the software accurately models real-world scenarios and integrates smoothly with existing systems. Effective communication and an ability to translate technical concepts into business terms are key to success in this role.

What is the difference between Commission Simulation Software Engineer vs Data Analyst in the same industry?

AspectCommission Simulation Software EngineerData Analyst
Required CredentialsBachelor's in Computer Science or related field, programming skillsBachelor's in Statistics, Mathematics, or related field
Work EnvironmentSoftware development teams, technical projectsData analysis teams, reporting environments
Industry UsageDevelops tools for commission calculations and simulationsAnalyzes data to inform business decisions

The Commission Simulation Software Engineer focuses on developing and maintaining software tools for commission calculations, requiring programming expertise. In contrast, a Data Analyst interprets data to support strategic decisions. Both roles often collaborate but serve different functions within the industry.

We are assembling a team of highly talented and driven individuals across the country. Driven by our core values of humanity, excellence, and creativity, our team is determined to deliver on our mission and transform the energy landscape for the better.

Feeling energized to make a meaningful impact on the world? Then keep reading - you've come to the right place.

Role Description

Form Energy is seeking an Industrial Engineer, Factory Modeling to serve as the analytical engine behind our manufacturing footprint. In this role, you will bridge the gap between high-level conceptual design and real-world production capability. By developing detailed discrete-event simulations, capacity models, and facility layouts, you will provide the data-driven insights necessary to optimize our factory design for cost, throughput, and floorspace efficiency. You will partner closely with the Factory Design Manager and the Automation Strategy Engineer to validate designs, stress-test scaling plans, and ensure our manufacturing systems are built for long-term operational success.

Relocation assistance is available.

What you'll do:
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive factory simulation models (discrete-event, process flow) to predict throughput, identify bottlenecks, and optimize layout efficiency.

  • Conduct detailed capacity analysis to validate factory concepts against production volume targets, supporting long-term capital planning and roadmap decisions.

  • Collaborate with the Factory Design Team to refine facility layouts, specifically optimizing floorspace utilization, material flow, and logistics infrastructure.

  • Partner with Automation Engineering to model the integration of automated systems into current workflows, evaluating the impact of technology changes on cycle times and labor requirements.

  • Perform sensitivity analysis on key process variables (e.g., uptime, yield, setup time) to determine the robustness of factory design concepts under varying operational scenarios.

  • Present data-driven findings and simulation results to cross-functional leadership, providing actionable recommendations to improve operational efficiency and capital allocation.

What you'll bring:
  • 7+ years of experience in industrial engineering, manufacturing systems modeling, or simulation within a complex production environment.

  • Proficiency in factory simulation software (e.g., FlexSim, AnyLogic, Arena, or similar) and advanced capacity modeling tools (Excel, Python, or SQL for data processing).

  • Strong analytical ability to translate complex process requirements into validated, high-fidelity models.

  • Demonstrated understanding of lean manufacturing principles, material handling, and logistics optimization.

  • Ability to effectively communicate quantitative insights to diverse stakeholders, influencing design choices with data.

  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.

Where you'll work:

This role is based at Form Factory 1 in Weirton, WV-an easy commute from the city of Pittsburgh, PA. This 550,000-square-foot facility is our hub for high-volume battery production and a leader in the new era of American energy manufacturing. Relocation assistance is available.
