Today, Inaba is the most popular brand of premium cat and dog dinners and treats in Japan, with growing distribution throughout the United States and globally. Inaba Foods (USA) Inc. continues to expand its footprint, invest in talent, and build long-term partnerships across the pet industry, supported by the stability and vision of our Japanese parent company.
Position Summary:
Inaba Foods (USA) Inc. is seeking an experienced Assistant Accounting Manager to oversee day-to-day accounting operations, manage month-end close workflows, supervise accounting staff, and support our enterprise ERP transition in the U.S.
This is a full-time, in-office position based in Torance, CA, as required by company leadership.
Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee day-to-day AP/AR operations, cash applications, customer credit memos, billing audits, and daily bank Positive Pay exception reviews.
  • Lead month-end close tasks across the AP/AR team, preparing and posting journal entries for expense accruals, prepaid amortizations, inventory estimates, and reclassifications.
  • Oversee team expense management and review/approve employee expense reports and timecards in automated systems (e.g., ADP).
  • Calculate, verify, and reconcile complex monthly sales broker commissions and trade rebates across multiple networks.
  • Prepare audit-ready balance sheet reconciliations, general ledger account analyses, and monthly financial statements compliant with US GAAP.
  • Audit and reconcile monthly storage, freight, and 3PL warehouse billing statements against supporting documentation.
  • Submit monthly financial packages to external CPA partners, process estimated tax payments/notices and facilitate the annual audit.
  • Support the company's ERP transition from QuickBooks Desktop to Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central (COA mapping, data migration, and report testing).
  • Provide supervision, training, and ongoing technical guidance to AP/AR staff; lead weekly team check-ins and regular 1-on-1s.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams (Logistics, Sales, Marketing) to resolve billing discrepancies and operational accounting needs.
  • Adhere to all Company policies, procedures, and business ethic codes; represent the Company in a professional manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or CPA candidate a plus.
  • 4+ years of progressive accounting experience, including month-end close, general ledger accounting, and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Proven experience supervising, reviewing, or guiding accounting staff (AP/AR).
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP principles, internal controls, accrual accounting, and audit-ready reconciliations.
  • Experience in broker commission calculation, trade rebate tracking, or complex sales allowance reconciliations.
  • Experience supporting an ERP implementation or transition (specifically Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, NetSuite, SAP, or similar Cloud ERP) is strongly preferred.
  • Proficient with QuickBooks Desktop (Enterprise) and automated expense/payroll software (e.g., ADP).
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP, INDEX/MATCH); experience using Excel Macros, VBA, or Python for data processing is preferred.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills; ability to prioritize and delegate effectively.
  • Strong accounting focus with leadership capabilities
  • Self-starter with a continuous improvement and process automation mindset
  • Ability to multi-task, manage multiple priorities, and work cross-functionally under time constraints
  • High attention to detail, accuracy, and proactive problem-solving skills
