Job Description
JOB SUMMARY:
Operates commercial-grade power lawn mowers and related equipment, and perform a variety of grounds maintenance work in support of the District facilities maintenance program.
SUPERVISION:
Receives general supervision from the Grounds Supervisor and technical and functional instructions from a Lead Groundsworker.
Exercises no supervision.
Examples of Duties
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Drives lawn mower truck and trailer transport equipment to sites within the District.
• Loads and unloads power mower.
• Mows school lawns with power mower and edges with a power edger.
• Cleans sidewalks with power blower and broom.
• Follows an assigned schedule for mowing various school lawns through the growing season.
• Adjusts and makes minor repairs to power mower and related equipment.
• Plants, irrigates, and fertilizes trees, lawns, and shrubbery.
• Operates power renovator to renovate lawns.
• Rakes rocks, leaves and lawns, and loads debris into trucks for hauling.
• Operates a variety of power and hand tools including chain saw, blowers, weed eaters, edgers and spray rig.
• Performs preventive maintenance of equipment, including cleaning and lubricating.
• Operates forklift and a variety of aerial lift equipment, after successful completion of training provided by the District.
• Performs Custodian/Groundsworker duties as needed.
• Operates District vehicle for travel to work sites.
• Estimates time and material costs to complete assigned job.
• Maintains appropriate records involving time, labor and materials.
• May direct the work of an assistant.
• Requisitions, orders and stores parts and materials.
• Keeps vehicles neat and organized and stocked with parts and materials.
• Performs related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION/TRAINING
Any combination equivalent to: sufficient training and education needed to acquire the knowledge, skills, abilities and other characteristics listed above.
• Completion of a course of training in commercial mower operation acceptable to the District.
-OR-
• Eighteen months of paid experience performing non-residential grounds/landscape maintenance work which has included either operation of commercial-grade grass mowers.
-AND-
• High school graduation or the equivalent.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATES/REGISTRATIONS (At time of appointment and during employment)
An appropriate, valid California driver's license.
