Job Summary
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Systems Integration Engineer to support the design, integration, commissioning, and first-article build of a custom Ion Beam Deposition (IBD) system. This individual will serve as the technical focal point for electrical systems, controls architecture, motion control, power distribution, equipment integration, and system troubleshooting. The ideal candidate possesses hands-on experience with complex industrial equipment incorporating high-voltage power supplies, RF systems, PLC-based controls, vacuum systems, motion control, and industrial automation.
Key Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
System Integration
* Lead integration of subsystems into a fully functional deposition platform.
* Develop and maintain system-level electrical and controls architecture.
* Define interfaces between electrical, mechanical, process, software, and safety systems.
* Support equipment commissioning, startup, troubleshooting, and factory acceptance testing.
Electrical Systems
* Design and review industrial electrical systems operating from:
* 208 VAC three-phase delta
* Control power distribution
* Specify transformers, disconnects, breakers, fusing, power distribution, and grounding schemes.
* Troubleshoot power quality and electrical integration issues.
Controls & Automation
* Develop and troubleshoot PLC-based control systems.
* Design and implement analog and digital I/O architectures.
* Integrate:
* Sensors
* Pressure transducers
* Flow controllers
* Temperature controllers
* Vacuum instrumentation
* Support HMI and supervisory control development.
Motion Control
* Integrate servo and stepper motion systems.
* Commission motor drives and motion controllers.
* Troubleshoot positioning, synchronization, and interlock issues.
* Interface motion subsystems with overall equipment controls.
Process Equipment Integration
* Integrate and troubleshoot:
* High-voltage DC power supplies
* RF generators and matching networks
* Ion sources
* Vacuum pumps and valves
* Mass flow controllers
* Process monitoring instrumentation
Safety Systems
* Develop equipment safety architecture.
* Implement machine interlocks and safety PLC functions.
* Support lockout/tagout requirements.
* Ensure compliance with applicable industrial and electrical safety standards.
Skill Requirements
Required Qualifications
* BS degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Controls Engineering, Physics, or related field.
* 7+ years of experience developing complex industrial equipment.
* Strong understanding of:
* 208 VAC three-phase delta distribution
* Analog and digital control systems
* PLC programming and troubleshooting
* Industrial communication protocols
* Motion control systems
* Hands-on experience commissioning industrial machinery.
* Ability to read and generate electrical schematics
Other Requirements
Initial 2-3 months Veeco - Plainview for training (Temporary) until October (approx. 3 months)
Then will be based in Beverly @Axcelis starting in Oct for 6-7 months, could be extended
