Job description

Overview

Marin Community Clinics, founded in 1972, is today, a multi-clinic network with a wide array of integrated primary care, dental, behavioral, specialty and referral services. As a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), we provide vital health services to almost 40,000 individuals annually in Marin County. The Clinics regularly receive national awards from the Health Resources and Services Administrations (HRSA). Our Mission is to promote health and wellness through excellent, compassionate care for all.

The Benefits & Compensation Manager provides strategic and handson leadership for the design, administration, and continuous improvement of the organization's total rewards programs. Supporting employees across clinical, administrative, and operational roles, this role ensures competitive, equitable, and compliant compensation and benefits practices aligned with MCC's mission, vision and values.

The position is responsible for salary administration, benchmarking, benefits and retirement plan oversight, contract administration, regulatory compliance (HRSA, FTCA, Joint Commission), and datadriven reporting and analysis to support organizational effectiveness, fiscal stewardship, and workforce retention.

Responsibilities
  • Lead organizational Total Rewards strategy, including compensation and benefits programs.
  • Design and manage salary structures, pay ranges, and job architecture.
  • Own and execute annual focal increase program and incentive plans.
  • Conduct market pricing, salary benchmarking, and compensation analysis.
  • Partner with Finance and Talent Acquisition on compensation modeling and offer strategy.
  • Manage benefits programs including medical, dental, 403(b), leaves of absence, and workers' compensation.
  • Manage and recommend new benefit programs including continuous education, tuition reimbursement, sabbatical and other programs.
  • Manage vendor relationships, renewals, negotiations, and RFP processes.
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal regulatory requirements including, but not limited to ERISA, ACA, FMLA, CFRA and ADA.
  • Develop executive dashboards, workforce analytics, and reporting insights.
  • Improve communication strategies to increase employee engagement with total rewards programs.
  • Participate in HR team initiatives and projects.
  • Periodically visit clinics in support of HR initiatives and enrollments.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Finance, or related field
  • 3+ years of direct Total Rewards management experience with ownership of compensation and benefits programs.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and managing salary structures, pay ranges, and incentive programs
  • Experience overseeing organizational benefit programs and vendor partnerships.
  • Experience and competence executing responsibilities within an HRIS platform, ADP Workforce Now preferred.

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Strong data analysis, modeling, and executive-level reporting capabilities.
  • Advanced Excel skills and competency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Copilot). Ability to translate complex data into actionable insights.
  • Strong attention to detail and compliance orientation.
  • Effective communication and presentation skills.
  • Collaborative partnership with HR, Finance, and senior leaders.
  • Spanish language skills a plus.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

  • Fulfill immunization and fit for duty regulatory requirements.
  • Primarily sitting work performed in an office.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time while working at a computer, including frequent use of a keyboard, mouse, and viewing a computer monitor.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in person, virtually, and in writing.
  • Ability to occasionally stand, walk, bend, and reach as required to perform essential job functions.
  • Ability to lift and carry light objects, such as files, binders, or office materials, weighing up to approximately 15 pounds on an occasional basis.
  • Ability to attend meetings, training, and work sessions at various organizational sites as required and may involve occasional travel within the region.
