Employer & Industry UsageUtility companies, contractorsUtility companies, contractors
Common Search & ComparisonYesYes

The main difference between a Commission Lineman Cdl and a Power Line Technician lies in licensing requirements; the lineman typically needs a CDL license for transportation, while the technician focuses more on technical skills and safety certifications. Both roles work outdoors on utility infrastructure and are employed by utility companies or contractors. They often overlap in job duties, but the CDL requirement is a key distinction for Commission Lineman Cdl roles.

Can you be a commission lineman with a CDL?

A commission lineman typically does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL), as the role mainly involves climbing and working on power lines. However, a CDL may be beneficial for driving large utility trucks or equipment, and some employers may prefer or require it for transportation purposes. Certification in safety and climbing techniques is more critical for this position.
