Job description

The Life Insurance claims analyst is responsible for timely handling and adjudication of claims, including some complex claims.

Areas of Responsibility:
  • Perform various duties relating to life, accidental death, waiver of premium, and critical illness claims including (1) setting up and reviewing for completeness and accuracy, (2) verifying consistency with policy contract and treaty provisions, and (3) approving payment or denial.
  • Adjudicate most basic claims, including smaller contestable claims.
  • Answer most client-related questions from clients.
  • Create and maintain monthly and quarterly reports for our retrocessionaire partners.
  • Communicate with ceding company and internal clients as needed.
  • Train and support clerical staff as needed.
  • Opportunities to lead or support team operations are part of this role; experience in similar responsibilities is a plus.

Requirements for the role:
  • 3 years of life insurance claims adjudication.
  • Some college coursework or equivalent work experience.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities effectively and meet deadlines.
  • Good mathematical proficiency.
  • Opportunities to lead or support team operations are part of this role; experience in similar responsibilities is a plus.

Skills:
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work within a team environment in a non-supervisory capacity.
  • Ability to exercise a high attention to detail to minimize errors.
  • Strong contract interpretation, organizational, analytical, and customer service skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and client focus perspective.
  • Good knowledge of reinsurance and/or insurance industry customs and practices.
  • Basic knowledge and use of Microsoft office products (Excel, Word) and Oracle Discoverer (or equivalent report writing software).

Other:
  • LOMA courses are preferred but not required.
  • Successful passing of at least one ICA exam is preferred, but not required.
