Job Description: Senior Chemist – Formulations Team

Electroninks is quickly expanding and is seeking a full-time Senior Chemist to serve as a technical leader responsible for advancing the research, development, optimization, and commercialization of current and next-generation ink products.

In this role, you will lead complex formulation projects, develop innovative solutions to technical challenges, support the scale-up of new products from laboratory development into manufacturing, and provide technical expertise and mentorship across the team.

Key Responsibilities

Research & Development Leadership

  • Lead research and development projects supporting current and next-generation ink formulations.
  • Design and execute complex experiments to solve formulation challenges and optimize product performance.
  • Develop new formulations and improve existing products through data-driven experimentation.
  • Independently manage technical projects from concept through commercialization.
  • Serve as the technical lead for assigned projects and collaborate closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, Applications, Quality, and Product Management.
  • Identify opportunities for innovation, process improvements, and new technologies.

Formulation Development & Ink Characterization

  • Lead formulation development using systematic experimental design and scientific analysis.
  • Characterize inks using viscosity, rheology, thermal analysis (TGA), solids content, conductivity, particle size analysis, and other analytical techniques.
  • Develop, validate, and improve laboratory test methods.
  • Investigate formulation performance issues and recommend technical solutions.
  • Evaluate new raw materials and emerging technologies.

Data Documentation & Reporting

  • Analyze complex experimental data and provide technical recommendations.
  • Prepare technical reports and present findings to management and cross-functional teams.
  • Maintain complete laboratory documentation in accordance with internal quality standards.
  • Support patent documentation and technical publications as appropriate.

Safety & Laboratory Operations

  • Ensure compliance with laboratory safety, chemical handling, and EHS requirements.
  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment.
  • Maintain laboratory organization, equipment readiness, and inventory.
  • Recommend improvements to laboratory processes and testing capabilities.


Collaboration & Continuous Improvement

  • Mentor Chemist I and Chemist II employees by providing technical guidance and coaching.
  • Lead technical discussions across Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, and Applications teams.
  • Support manufacturing scale-up and commercialization efforts.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives related to formulation development, testing methods, and laboratory operations.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in formulation development, materials science, or a related technical field.
  • Hands-on experience in a wet chemical laboratory or chemical manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and optimizing formulations, designing experiments, analyzing data, and troubleshooting technical challenges.
  • Knowledge of QA/QC protocols, chemical safety, and laboratory best practices.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and project management skills with the ability to work independently and collaboratively across teams.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.
  • Experience with nanomaterials, ink or dispersion formulation, and relevant material characterization techniques.
  • Experience with thin-film deposition or printing techniques, including spray coating, inkjet printing, or screen printing.
  • Experience with manufacturing scale-up, commercialization, and laboratory test method development.
  • Experience providing technical guidance or mentorship to junior team members.
