Job description

About Poesis
Whoever builds the leading intelligence for finance will create far more than returns. Poesis is the AI-native investment firm running autonomous agents that predict markets, construct portfolios, and manage risk. Our founders managed institutional capital at Capital Group ($3T AUM) and led enterprise ML at Goldman Sachs and Amazon. We're building a new type of firm, where live capital is the training ground for an intelligence that compounds with every signal.
About the Role
We're looking for an experienced leader to help shape the future of Poesis. As Head of Engineering, you'll bring strong technical judgment and deep systems expertise to build AI-native systems at the intersection of machine learning and investing. You'll translate frontier research into production platforms, turning large-scale data, models and agent capabilities into systems that drive investment decision-making. You'll work closely with Poesis leadership to define the technical vision and execute the engineering roadmap. This is a hands-on role with meaningful responsibility for both architecture and implementation.
Responsibilities
  • Help define the architecture and technical direction of the Poesis platform
  • Design and build scalable systems for financial data ingestion, processing, storage and access
  • Build the infrastructure that supports research, model development, real-time multiagent inference, and production decision-making
  • Design point-in-time data architectures that ensure reproducibility, historical accuracy and research integrity
  • Define platform standards for data architecture, APIs, reliability, reproducibility and explainability
  • Partner closely with researchers, quantitative developers and leadership to translate research into production.
  • Define and evolve engineering processes that allow the team to ship quickly, reliably and predictably
  • Recruit, develop and manage a high-performing engineering team

Required Competencies
  • 5+ years of software engineering experience
  • 2+ years building products or platforms at a frontier AI lab, agentic startup, leading hedge fund, big tech company, or similar
  • 2+ years of leadership and/or management experience
  • Strong systems design skills architecting distributed, data-intensive, and event-driven platforms
  • Proficiency in Python and SQL, with bonus for TypeScript, Go, or Rust
  • Success designing and operating modern AI and agentic systems, including LLMs, orchestration, evaluation, and ML infrastructure
  • Basic understanding of financial markets and a personal or professional interest in investing
  • BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent practical experience
Preferred Competencies
  • Experience building platforms for quantitative research, systematic investing, or financial analytics, including point-in-time financial data and professional data providers such as Capital IQ, Bloomberg, FactSet, or Refinitiv
  • Familiarity with portfolio construction, risk management, or investment workflows
  • Deep knowledge of predictive and generative artificial intelligence algorithms and methods
