Summary

Welcome to our Maxon Shooter’s Supplies & Indoor Range job posting, we are currently looking to hire more great people for our gunsmith team right now! We have been a pillar of the firearms community around Chicago since 1953 and we consider it our mission to grow, broaden, and expand OUR community. We want to be THE place to experience the world of shooting sports, and we want your help to make it the best experience possible for every customer!

We are searching for a qualified individual to lead our gunsmithing department. The key role of this position will be performing the more difficult gunsmithing alterations and repairs, expanding the capabilities of the department, while also bringing our current gunsmiths up to speed on skills they may be lacking.

Our gunsmithing department can currently troubleshoot, repair, disassemble and reassemble all types of firearms but cannot complete more complex custom work including drilling, machine work, and stock repair. Responsibilities and Duties

A Master gunsmith should be able to perform the following tasks:

  • Repair ejecting & firing problems on handguns, rifles, shotguns
  • Inspect, disassemble, clean, oil and reassemble all types of firearms
  • Repair damaged parts or order appropriate replacement parts and install them
  • Repair and/or install barrels
  • Change the length, flute, re-crown, or thread a barrel
  • Install sights on handguns, rifles, shotguns
  • Install triggers and adjust weight
  • Mount scopes and bore sight
  • Machine work
  • Customization: checkering / hand-stippling / scalloping / beveling
  • RMR Sight cut & mount
  • Refinish or repair wooden stocks
  • Bead-blast and refinish
  • Cerakote application
  • Maintain a schedule for the routine maintenance of all range rental guns
  • Staff Training within your department
Qualifications & Skills
  • At least 21 years of age with valid FOID card
  • Gunsmithing degree or certificate from reputable institution
  • At least 5 years of full-time paid gunsmith experience
  • References to show quality of work
Physical Requirements:
  • Extended periods of standing.
  • Lifting and/or pushing objects up to 40 lbs. on a regular basis
  • Working on a ladder at heights of up to 10 feet.
