Job description

Job Summary

This role is for a Software Engineer responsible for developing and maintaining the critical infrastructure and automation platforms that power KeyBank's internal and external banking applications.

You will contribute hands-on development using languages like Python and Java to build robust, scalable solutions that improve developer productivity and system reliability. This includes writing code to automate and manage highly available, redundant, and secure environments.

The role also involves working extensively with our internal developer platform (Harness.io), CI/CD pipelines (GitLab), and cloud-native technologies such as Google Cloud and Kubernetes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and automate infrastructure solutions and internal tools using Python, Java, and other modern technologies
  • Write, test, and maintain clean, efficient, and reusable code for core platform components, infrastructure-as-code (IaC), and automation scripts
  • Take ownership of the health, performance, and availability of the Internal Developer Platform by troubleshooting and resolving issues through code-based solutions
  • Develop and implement features that improve developer productivity, system efficiency, and reduce operational costs
  • Collaborate with application development and infrastructure teams to define and implement performance, security, and reliability standards
  • Implement and advocate for software development and security best practices, ensuring compliance with IT standards (e.g., information security, audit requirements)
  • Evaluate and prototype new technologies to enhance development platform and infrastructure capabilities
  • Create comprehensive documentation and technical specifications for developed software and systems
  • Drive innovation by identifying and implementing new tools and processes to enhance developer experience and system reliability
Required Qualifications
  • Proven experience in software development using object-oriented languages such as Python or Java
  • Strong understanding of DevOps principles and experience with CI/CD tools (e.g., GitLab CI, Jenkins)
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (GCP, AWS, or Azure) and containerization technologies (Kubernetes, Docker)
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to debug complex systems
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent practical experience
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience building or maintaining internal developer platforms (e.g., Harness.io)
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform or Ansible
  • Knowledge of secure coding practices and automated security testing
  • Experience in the financial services industry
Physical Demands
  • General Office - Prolonged sitting, ability to communicate face to face in person or on the phone with teammates and clients, frequent use of PC/laptop, occasional lifting/pushing/pulling of backpacks, computer bags up to 10 lbs.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

This position is eligible to earn a base salary in the range of $63,000.00 - $96,000.00 annually. Placement within the pay range may differ based upon various factors, including but not limited to skills, experience and geographic location. Compensation for this role also includes eligibility for incentive compensation which may include production, commission, and/or discretionary incentives.
