Job description

The Data Center Customer Deployment Engineer supports customer installations and tenant fit-outs across an assigned regional portfolio of colocation data centers. Projects range from single-cabinet installations to complex, multisite deployment programs.

This is a power-focused white space engineering role. The engineer’s primary responsibility is planning, assigning, grooming, striping, weeding, balancing, and redistributing electrical power within active data center environments. Candidates must possess deep expertise in data hall power distribution, electrical capacity, rack-level power, redundancy, and load management.

The role also supports cabinets, cages, racks, containment, equipment moves, connectivity, and light fiber requirements. A working knowledge of cooling and airflow is expected, but electrical power must be the candidate’s strongest technical area.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage customer deployments ranging from individual cabinet installations to multisite data center rollouts.
  • Translate customer requirements into executable white space deployment plans.
  • Plan, assign, groom, stripe, weed, balance, and redistribute power based on equipment requirements and available capacity.
  • Coordinate A-side and B-side power distribution and redundancy.
  • Review rack power requirements, electrical loads, circuit capacity, and breaker assignments.
  • Coordinate PDUs, RPPs, busway, branch circuits, breakers, and cabinet power connections.
  • Identify available or underutilized power and determine how capacity should be assigned or redistributed.
  • Support tenant fit-outs involving cabinets, cages, racks, containment, power, and connectivity.
  • Develop or review floor layouts, rack elevations, cage designs, and cabinet placements.
  • Support equipment moves, containment changes, light fiber, cabling pathways, and cross-connects.
  • Prepare conceptual designs, scopes of work, layout drawings, and project documentation.
  • Maintain accurate as-built drawings and incorporate field redlines.
  • Coordinate with customers, Operations, Capacity, Construction, vendors, and internal engineering teams.
  • Verify that installations meet facility standards, redundancy requirements, and customer specifications.
  • Support testing, project turnover, and final customer acceptance.

Required Qualifications

  • Direct experience with data center, colocation, mission-critical, or white space infrastructure.
  • Strong expertise in electrical power distribution within active data halls.
  • Experience grooming, striping, weeding, assigning, and balancing power.
  • Knowledge of rack power, circuits, breakers, electrical capacity, redundancy, and load management.
  • Familiarity with PDUs, RPPs, busway, branch circuits, and A-side/B-side power configurations.
  • Experience supporting customer tenant fit-outs or deployment projects.
  • Ability to read electrical one-lines, floor plans, rack elevations, and construction documents.
  • Strong project coordination, documentation, and customer communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and aggressive deadlines.
  • Ability to travel approximately one week per month.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain and maintain a passport.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related technical field.
  • Knowledge of cooling, airflow, equipment heat loads, and hot-aisle/cold-aisle containment.
  • Familiarity with structured cabling, fiber pathways, and cross-connects.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Revit, Visio, or similar design software.
  • Experience coordinating deployments across multiple data center locations.
  • Knowledge of commissioning, quality assurance, and deployment turnover.
  • EIT, PE, DCDC, ATD, RCDD, CDCP, or related credentials.

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • Short-term and long-term disability insurance
  • Life insurance
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Paid time off and paid holidays
  • Phone allowance
